Shower Drain Leak.

2012 31FS. Experiencing a water leak from under the shower pan. I removed the small panel to see the p-trap at the shower pan drain. While making my body as small as possible, I managed to tighten (by hand) both connections of the trap. They were loose. Problem is, I am still getting a water leak and it appears to be coming from the joint of the trap downstream of the trap.

Has anyone put pipe dope or teflon tape on this joint. Or could it be I need to get a wrench in there to give it another 1/4 turn?

The leak is very slow after my initial tightening. Seems that when the kids take showers it leaks more than when the wife and I do. They move a round a lot.

Any experience on a leaky p trap?

TX,
I've tried several ways to correct leaks like you are experiencing.

1. An additional 1/8 turn with a wrench
2. Added teflon tape (an old timer turned me on to this one. The Manufacturuer I think says not to use)
3. I've put a small rope of plumbers putty inside next to the beveled ring
4. I've replaced beveled washer. Sometimes thay get contaminated, damaged etc. I have a bag around in my tool bag.

I've installed and replaced, repaired PVC piping for years. I have found success with all of these options. I have even used the plumber epoxy putty if desperate :-)

Try one, if it doesn't work move to another option.

Hope this helps,
Doug

OK, we are still getting a leak, but I think I know where it is coming from. Leaks a lot more with the kids than when I or the wife use it.
Kids tend to point the head at the walls and some time put the shower head down on the floor.
About 2/3rds of the plastic rivets onthe wall dont seem to be very solid. A couple look to have a gap in them. The side wall is not seals to the shower pan.

I have read many threads debating wether or not to seal the pan and side walls at the bottom. Some say yes, some say no. I can tell it has some sort of sticky advhesive, but the sidewal is loose from the pan.

Besides changing my kids showering technique, which we are. The question is; Is there something wrong. Do I need to address the rivets? Does it need to be sealed at the bottom, between the sidewall and basin?

It leaks when the wife or I shower as well, but only a little bit. I would prefer it to not leak at all!

Personally,
I would try to get the attachment between the side walls and the top edge of the pan corrected.
Maybe screws, maybe pulling it back and using liquid nails and then silicone tub caulking aound the entire edge.

If I used screws, I would probably use a beveled flad head and wipe some silicone over each one.

Just some thoughts.

Check to be sure they sealed around the faucet. I found some water in the same area you are speaking of right after buying my TT. The dealer came across the street immediately and looked at it. The factory had forgot to silicone around the faucet and it was leaking through to the floor below.
