Side view mirror camera

I'm not a fan of these cameras anyone know if I can disconnect them. I would much rather have the rear camera stay on when I'm making a turn.

i think you would need to disconnect them from the radio itself. I agree they are useless but haven't looked into disabling yet.

I also agree that looking at the monitor while making a turn is a bit silly, but disconnecting the camera itself may be a little dramatic. It does come in handy when maneuvering in tight spaces. On the wiring diagram I received from my dealer there is a triggering signal that is applied whenever the turn signal is activated. It might be better to disconnect that wire instead. You will still need to pull the radio unit to get at it though.
Doing that will leave the cameras still selectable on the radio if you need them.

I agree they are useless for forward driving, but could come in handy when backing into places and making sure you don't run over the electric service, water spout, sapling, boulder, kids bike, etc...as sfergie631 said.

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping to find a success story before I experiment with mine. I just started towing a car so I would much rather keep an eye on it around the turns. The delay for the camera to activate makes them pointless to me.

Not sure what viewing options you have but in my coach I can select which camera(s) I want to see. For most situations I like the option to show all three at once. Have you checked into what viewing options you have?

Do you adjust your rear view camera based on whether you're towing your car? I've been thinking about this recently... We just started towing a car, and I'm thinking about adjusting the rear camera so that I can see further back when towing, and closer to the rig when not towing. Thoughts?

My cam looks pretty far back although you lose depth perception - what looks far away is still fairly close. If you adjust your cam keep it so you can still use it to avoid backing over objects. When driving I use the rear cam to judge when changing lanes is OK. With a toad its hard to judge with side mirrors.

Has anybody used the side cameras at night? They look like they have infrared LEDs which should helps with visibility in a dark campground.

I do that exactly. Works well for lane changes.
