Silde Out Toppers - Yah or Nah?

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to decide if its worth asking my dealer to install slide out toppers on my new coach. I can't decide if its a worthwhile investment or not.

Can you guys chime in as to whether or not you have them or don't? Or don't and wish you had? Have them but think you wasted your money?

We like them, keeps rain, leaves ect. off the slide out roof. Worth the money.

I had one installed b4 picking up my Greyhawk. Couldn't see risking a walnut dropping on top and not knowing b4 bringing in the slide.

We spend 4 to 5 months each year in Florida. No question the toppers keep the area under our slides cooler. We did not have toppers in our previous unit and the area under the slides was always warmer. No question that I would purchase them again.

We like the shaded campsites in state parks which means pine cones, acorns and small limbs drop. The slide topper keeps me from having to climb on the roof before pulling it in. I like having it up there.

Would you like to have "issues" with leaves, branches etc on your slide-outs ? Rain? Even slide-out not closing all the way? ......

We like them. Except when the wind is blowing hard from front or back and they vibrate like a bass saxophone.

Maybe I'll run w/o them for the first couple trips. They are a decent amount of money, and for only 25 nights or so a year - let me see if I can make do. At least if I want them I can go to my dealer for them now. The old rig is/was Camping World's.

AFAIK, slide toppers primary purpose is to keep debris off the top of the slide to eliminate the requirement to check, and maybe sweep, the top of the slide before retracting. Correct?

We don't have a topper (1 slide) so I'm uncertain if I'll find checking and sweeping the slide top before departing a problem or not. Time will tell.

We had them in installed on our Redhawk before delivery, after seeing them on my Son's 2014 Sunseeker. An extra cost [$500?+ for 2] option, but well worth it, since I couldn't see climbing up there to make sure the slide tops were clear before closing. Well worth the cost, considering the $80K?] investment in one these things!

I have them and wouldn't be without. Makes life much easier and quicker when packing up. Every trailer I've had, they've been installed before pickup.

I don't have them and wish I did, not only because they keep debris and snow off (had to get up there and sweep off about 4 inches last winter), but when it is hot and sunny the sun will not be directly on the slide roof, making the whole camper cooler.
