Tell me about your RV Mattress

We have experienced sleeping in our 29 MV ten nights and have come to the conclusion over the mattress supplied with the Jayco Greyhawk 29MV ....... "IT SUCKS" ....Plain and simple.

The short queen is just "too soft" to generate a good night's sleep for us.

The wife and I spent the afternoon RV Mattress hunting. Every stop was the same. "SORRY, we don't have RV mattress's, your best bet is Irwin's Mattress Mart".

Fortunately, we have Irwin's Mattress Mart here in Cajun Country. In business since 1958, they can create a great mattress (spring, foam, or both) to fit your needs, specs, and price range.

SO .... It's just a matter of time before we have our great mattress.

Yep OEM mattress suck. I have one of these on order as we love our Tempurpedic at home. Memory foam double sided various sizes & free shipping. The discount did not work with PayPal I had to call to get it applied. I'll update after I use it
Luxury RV Mattress | RV Mattress Gel Foam

Also CW has an insert for the short queens, place between headboard and matters to extend. It was in a recent flyer.

Sleep master

I bought a "Sleep Master Deluxe Spring 10 Inch Pillow Top RV/Camper/Trailer/Truck Mattress, Short Queen" mattress on Amazon. It compares to my $2,000 mattress we have at home. Cheap too!

Our floor plan has an entertainment center at the foot of the bed so we have a few inches of play. We also have storage under the bed that we use. Our solution that works very well is to put on top of the OEM mattress a queen standard Costco memory foam pad (they have a 'seasonal' version for those who get too hot) then a heated mattress pad that we can use with hook-ups or generator to warm the bed. The good news is [1] the foot of the bed still easily lifts for accessing the storage, [2] queen standard bedding fits, and [3] sleep is fantastic.

Here is an interesting tidbit for those of you who have a FitBit - check your sleep log and compare nights spent at home vs. nights spent on your RV bed. Although we have Tempur-Pedic at home, I sleep deeper in the TT ~ maybe it is the outdoors or the absence of home worries and chores, but who cares!

RV mattresses are a scam. Our king is 4" narrower than a regular king even tho there's room for the regular. Forces you to buy bedding from rv stores at 4 times the cost. Will be replacing it shortly with a regular king so we can use linens from our house

Boudreaux, search this forum for "mattress rave". You'll finds lots of complaints and some solutions.

We have this one and it is awesome! Unfortunately, they gouge you on the short queens 'special size'.

My new jay flight has a full size queen and I will be ordering one the these. The regular queen is priced $125 less than the short queen.

Everything I was reading about aftermarket RV memory foam mattresses was disappointing, bad quality, soft spots, not firm enough, lack of warranty after problems. So I went to a local high end furniture stores warehouse in search of a new serta icomfort, similar to what I have at home and love sleeping on. Lucky they had one model that was discontinued but still brand new in the plastic, price was $2900.00 reduced to $1999.00. I told the girl that was way more than I wanted to spend, she went off to talk to her manager and came back with $500.00. I said sold, now I have a queen mattress that is 60x80 but my camper uses a full xl which is 55x80. So I got out my trusty electric turkey carving knife and chopped five inches off one side, fit perfect and now I sleep great in the camper.

Sweet - I have to measure the thickness of my mattress and see if I can get a match. The foot of my mattress slides under armoire/wall piece. It can't be too fat !

Might you have a California King? It's 4" narrow and 4" longer than an eastern king mattress.

California King = 72"x84"
Eastern King = 76"x80"

I never realized there was actual regional difference, but you would be very hard pressed to walk into a store around here and find Eastern King sheets, only Cal King.

I complained to Jayco warranty about the Denver Mattress in my 2014 model and told them I wanted it warrantied, but I didn't want another mattress like it, so they gave me $336.00 toward a new one. I bought a short queen 10 inch innerspring mattress from Walmart mail order for $450 and LOVE it.

I've posted this several times when folks start complaining about their Denver Mattress, but it's been a while. So, here we go again.

Like so many others, I purchased a 3" memory foam mattress topper, but after my first camping trip, I was really dissatisfied with it. At the suggestion of another JOF member (sorry, I can't remember who), I tried putting the M.F. mattress topper under the Denver Mattress . . . like a box spring. Not only did it make the bed incredibly comfortable, but it helps to keep the cold air from coming up from the pass-thru - through the gap between the bed platform and the side tables.

Since my mattress is not a pillow-top, I also added a 1" corrugated foam rubber mattress topper on top of the mattress, and a heated mattress pad on top of that. This combo is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on, and I stay warm & toasty without wasting propane heating the entire trailer.

Sleep number makes an RV mattress. My parents have one in their 5er. They love it.

Well, apparently I need a 6.5" mattress b/c of the slide and the mattress going under some furniture. Maybe I'll try the 3" memory foam deal. Its either that or a $500 specialty mattress.

I just might try this. I found a 4lb 3" topper on Amazon for a fraction of a new mattress. Are your results really that good? Putting it UNDER the mattress - would have never considered it.

Roy,

We have 2016 Seneca. The mattress is horrible. We have beefed up the base but it didn't help. The 2016 were advertised as having a Denver Mattress but ours is a Mastercraft. I hate to try to d al with Camping World. Do you have a contact at Jayco? Thanks.

Cdrip, I worked through the Jayco support line. They offered to pay $350 after purchase of replacement. I replaced with the Sleep Comfort from CW. It's an inch too high so deflating and protecting the edge that slides under the closet furniture is necessary.

Right now the pump sits on the floor under the bed with the power cord pulled through a hole near the right side electrical outlet. DO NOT attempt to attach the pump to the underside of bed as it will slide forward and either hit the foot of bed at curves or items stored under the bed. I placed the pump on the floor and suspended the air tubes with bungee cords on the bottom of the bed. That should keep the tubes from snagging when they move with slide.

While messing around under the bed I also noticed a gap to the outside. Fix one, find one.

I just have a regular (house type) full size mattress in mine, with a 3" foam rubber/memory foam mattress underneath it to act as "box springs". It's kind of heavy, but it sleeps good. And it was free.
