Tire Life

We have an '07 Seneca with about 20k miles on it. Treadwise, the Michelin tires look almost new but they are 6+ years old now. Is there any rule of thumb for how long tires should last with respect to age?

5 to 6 years is the max life for a tire from date of manufacture. Michelin has great info on their website about this.. sorry to say but TIME FOR NEW TIRES..

x2. ST tires deteriorate on the inside. Old tires may look great but become time bombs on the freeway.

Bought at TT near Phoenix AZ that had sat in the brutal sun for the past three years (without any protection on the tires). The three year old tires had brand new tread, so I thought I was getting a great deal (rest of the TT was tip-top shape). Unfortunately, the tires failed on the first long trip. Lessons learned for me! A closer inspection of the tires showed very extensive heat/sun damage on the sidewalls that should have been my first clue. Thankfully, a good samartian in Utah signalled me on the interstate that my tire(s) were starting to come apart and I was able to pull off and get the situation addressed before they (one or more) blew up!

I suspect you know it's time to replace the tires, and I'll confirm that. Tires are good for 5-6 years, regardless of how few miles they have on them.

Do you replace the tires on your truck at 5 years or when they are worn out? A Seneca is essentially a truck tire. I would not be to quick to jump into new ones with out having them checked out.

Personally at this point I have never had a truck tire last longer than 5-6 years with out wearing out from use.

Since I now have a dedicated TV, age will become an issue more than actual wear. Based on my FIL having 2 blow-outs in a month on his F250 dedicated TV with 7 year old OEM tires but only ~35K miles, yes I will change then before the 6th year camping season.
