Traveling with a/c on-need generator on?

I'm new to this Jayco world. Have a 2014 Greyhawk 31FS. Will be traveling with family soon and want to know if I need to run generator if I turn air conditioning on while driving. On an former unit I use to own, had to run generator to use ac while driving.

Yes you are correct. You will have to run the generator in order to run the main AC unit. My 2015/ 31 FS is the same. Depending on how hot it is outside I find that the vehicle AC on high and the vents aimed towards the rear keep it comfortable in the coach. I just returned from a 2500 mile trip from Colorado to the Gatlinburg and this was the case. My last RV was a 2007 Gulfstream class C and I had to run the gen set all the time to keep it cool. I think the Jayco's are better insulated.

Yes, and if your running in the heat of the summer, you will need the front A/C, like described above to keep the place cool. We run a small utility air blower sitting near the kitchen area in our 31FS to force more cold air to the back of the coach as well.

Another thing that helps us when we arrive at camp is to immediately pop the hood and prop open till the chassis cools off. This allows for heat to escape faster from the engine / underside of the coach.

Making reflective insulation covers for a couple of the larger windows helps as well if the heat outside gets too bad. It surprised us how covering one large window helped keep things cooler.

I really like the idea of propping the hood to get things cooler faster shortly after you arrive.

As to getting the air to the back of the unit - it also helps if you have vent covers installed so you can run w/ your vent covers open. It helps to keep the air moving bow to stern.
