Tuning versus default options

so as I was chatting with the crew at 5star tuning they disclosed that the e450 based RVs had only one tune that is better suited for the load characteristics that having the box that we call a house on it. And given the load it is almost always as if it is in towing mode due to the increased weights. So has anyone tried to use the Tow/haul button for normal driving to see if it cures many of the weird shifting and rev conditions?

I OK with the E450 currently set shift points. The only time I really feel a need for a more aggressive shift is on the downhill. I'm a fan of taking it easy on the service brakes so I use tow/haul mode on the downhill for earlier downshifting and compression braking. Otherwise I'm fine with the way it shifts.

I have the 5 Star installed and am satisfied although not sure it was worth the money. It definitely (in my case) solved the irritating issue of extreme downshifting on even the slightest hill that the standard tune had (tow/haul mode included). It seems to shift in a more reasonable manner and RPMs now. It may have added a skosh (sp?) more power, but it had no measurable effect on gas mileage.

Don't have a MH yet but alot of the folks running big fifth wheels say it works best to run in tow/haul mode all the time.

I run tow/haul all the time and it does not fix the downshifting issue. I ordered the 5 Star tune but wont get a chance to use till Oct.

Worth every penny. I've had it for 2 years now and it solves most of the tranny shifting issues i had before. More torque is available and the transmissions resists downshifting from 5 to 3 now.

Does the tune result in the rig being more quiet as far as engine/tranny noise?

Not really, just prevents the noise of the high reving 5 to 3 shift.

Doesn't change the normal noise.

That's good enough for me. If it has better pull and doesn't go into "Banshee Mode" immediately on any incline that'd be nice.
