Problem solved...

OK, THAT'S taken care of!

I replaced the existing outlet... easy to do, took about 20 minutes. I was slowed down by working in the tight space up on the cab-over bunk, behind the TV.

Needed:

$ 6.00 dollar 115v 2 outlet receptacle, wire cutters, 2 wire nuts, box cutter, needle nose pliers, and a continuity tester.

  • KILL THE 115v power to the rig (don't ask me why I say that).
  • Take the face plate off.
  • Unscrew and pull out the old receptacle. Remove the 3 wires from the receptacle (Black, White and Ground). REMEMBER where they went!
  • Slit the black rubber shrink cover over the relay, and snip the 3 wires going into it as close to the relay as you can. Put a wire nut on the white and red wires.
  • The remaining three wires (white, black and ground) will go back on the receptacle.
  • Plug in your continuity tester to one of the outlets and turn the power back on... the tester should show a good connection (two yellow lights and the third one not lit, on mine).
  • Start the engine... if all is well, there will still be power to the outlet (the tester will still be lit).
  • As a further test, turn off the shore power again (engine still running), and turn the inverter on. There should be power from the inverter to the outlet. NOTE- Never have the shore power and the inverter on at the same time! Bad things can happen...
  • Assuming that everything works... turn everything off (engine, inverter, shore power, etc.) and put the receptacle back in the wall, and enjoy.
Disclaimer: your wire colors may be different, don't try this at home, hot water may be hot, don't eat peanuts if they make you turn purple, fresh paint may be wet, electricity might hurt you, yada, yada, yada.

Shouldn't have any adverse affects, I have ours on with shore power connected all the time. It's designed to switch automatically.

I just snipped the red wire, capped it with a wire cap, and that's it. Fixed!!

Outlets

Are there any outlet that work while you are driving down the road? Any difference if the inverter is on or not?

There are outlets that do work, but only when the inverter is on. The TV outlet, above the cab, works when the inverter is on, for one. I believe there are some others that work, as well, but haven't identified them all yet, myself.

The only one on the inverter is the TV, you have to modify it as discussed earlier in this thread. All outlets will work on the geny except the TV while on the road, again unless you modify the outlet.

had relay disconnected so tv and outlet now works with engine running, now my hydraulic jacks and generator can be operated without turning battery switch on, it seems to me these operate off truck battery, this happens with or without engine running anyone else have the same outcome, mine was done by a rv repair man

Control panel for jacks is probably connected to the chassis electrical system and the main power cables for the jacks themselves and the geny are connected directly to the battery. They do not go through the disconnect.

I have 2015 Greyhawk 31fs. I was a little skeptical with trying to fiddle with the outlet cause my rig is still under warrenty. I took it to the dealership and they said they were not allowed to do anything.
So I tried the advice of from this forum and it WORKS.
Litterally, all you need is a set of wire cutters, a philips screwdriver, and a small wire nut. You do not have to replace the entire outlet.
Here are the quick and easy steps.
1. extend TV so you have access to the outlet
2. turn off power to the cabin
3. remove the faceplate from outlet
4. remove the 2 screws holding in the outlet
5. there is a red wire on the back of the outlet, cut that wire
6. place the wire nut on the end not attached to the outlet
7. put the outlet back in the box and put the faceplate on
8. enjoy having the tv work while the RV is running.

It is so incredibly simple.

I remember hearing this could also be done by pulling out a fuse. Can anyone verify this?

No, no fuse... There is a relay in the outlet that has to be bypassed.

We plugged a six way adapter into the outlet so we can charge our phones, tablet, laptop, etc while driving. Also use it for the crockpot while enroute, and the pod coffee maker at rest stops.

WilliamWynia posted instructions earlier describing where the red wire is:

You do not have to replace the entire outlet.
Here are the quick and easy steps.
1. extend TV so you have access to the outlet
2. turn off power to the cabin
3. remove the faceplate from outlet
4. remove the 2 screws holding in the outlet
5. there is a red wire on the back of the outlet, cut that wire
6. place the wire nut on the end not attached to the outlet
7. put the outlet back in the box and put the faceplate on
8. enjoy having the tv work while the RV is running.

Good luck!
