Hey jgerhard, after re-reading the entire thread and being fearful because I'm no handyman, I took a chance that you were right and it totally worked the exact way that you and the others say.

One small exception for others that "are not handymen", once genny is turned back on don't attempt to re-mount your outlet with the two screws because where the "hot" lead wire attaches to the plug will give you a nice little volt, much like touching a hotwire around my horse corral.

I'm also attaching a before and after pic of my handy work. BTW, I've got a 2012 Seneca 37TS, just for reference on wire colors.

Just did this yesterday. Found the receptacle the tv was plugged into. Oh, have a Seneca 37HJ. Front tv is over fireplace. Started at the plugs that are in the cabinet above with satellite box, dvd and splitter in it and couldn't see where the tv was plugged into. Hum, needed to get behind the tv so I pulled the wood trim from around the tv and BAM! There was the outlet. Just as said prior, red wire to relay was connected to clamp splice thingy. Disconnected and voila, tv stays on.

RV newbie here. Wanted to do the same thing: allow the grandkids to watch the TV while we are driving. The TV is situated so I cannot see it while driving, so that is not an issue.

I tried cutting the red wire (leaving some room so I could reconnect the wire ends if needed). Used wire nuts to cap them off. Made no difference. The outlet where the TV and DVD is plugged into is still dead while the key is in the ignition.

Anyone out there with suggestions?

Find another outlet near the TV and change its plug location avoiding the cutoff circuit.

Tried that. All the plugs are "dead" when the key is in the ignition.

I'm thinking that I might just pick up a 200 Watt DC to AC inverter today and use the 12 volt lighter and run an extension cord over to the TV and DVD player while we are underway. I can always move the extension cord once we get to our destination.

Do you have the inverter turned on?

Didn't know that you would have to turn it on. Where is the on/off switch?

Usually in the control panel.

If you don't have an inverter or want to also cool the inside of the coach while driving and the kids are enjoying the TV, fire up the generator and that should supply power to all the outlets.

Nothing on the Control Panel that would indicate that I have an inverter.

Don't really want to run the generator.

Will probably go with the 12v DC to AC inverter and run an extension cord. I have been using a laptop for the grandkids, but the battery usually dies before the movie is over.

We still have the same portable inverter we purchased when we had our first RV that didn't have an inverter, and the gas generator was always giving us problems. Our current RV has the built in inverter so we don't really use it any longer.
One thing to keep in mind is that you would normally only want to use the inverter while the engine is running and the batteries have a source of charge. Even a small inverter drawing from the batteries with a minimal load could "eat" the batteries quickly.

abarkl,

The only time I would use the inverter would be while driving. When "camping" (I call it "RVing" as we really aren't roughing it too much), we are always hooked up to a 30 amp power supply at the campground and run off AC. I'll plug the TV and DVD player back into their original outlets once we set up camp.

This is odd since my 2016 Alante 31v does not have this "feature". My tv runs off the inverter while the motor is running! Any idea why there is a difference?

Probably depends on location of the TV.
