Water pressure regulator
We're new owners of a 2017 Jayco Melbourne and we're curious about the need to use a regulator on the supply water hose at a campground. Are they necessary? If so what pressure should they be set at? Does anyone have any recommendations as to what models/features we might purchase.
Thanks..........

At some campgrounds they may not be needed but it certainly cant hurt. I've gone without at several campgrounds and never had a problem. I do now use this one for peace of mind.

Yes, you need a pressure regulator. RV water systems are designed for 60psi. Some campgrounds can be much higher than that.
The cheap pressure regulators seriously restrict water flow. The low flow rates can be a problem for those with tankless water heaters.
Using the free regulator we got from our dealer, the flow for our shower, even with a 6gal water heater, was lower than we liked. We bought a Valterra A01-1117VP for next season, but haven't tried it yet.

I park my fiver out at my brother's, mainly to crash after a BBQ/party with many adult beverages. Just for grins, I put a pressure gauge in the water line. Saw the water pressure top out at 110 psi. Have used a pressure regulator ever since. He is on a community water system.

Where on the line do you guys put the regulator and the water filter?
City Water > Water Hose > Regulator > Water Fliter > 90* Elbow > TT?

When I was using a cheap regulator, I connected the regulator to the spigot followed by the filter etc. This next season I plan to...
City Water > Water Filter* > Regulator > Water Hose > Water Fiiter** > Water Hose > 90* Elbow > TT?
* Camco blue standard filter to get grit out before the $55 regulator.
** filter cartridge 5 micron barrier and Granulated activated carbon

Why are you switching to this set up?

The flow rate through the cheap pressure regulator and carbon filter was too low for a good shower. Showers were possible, but not pleasant.
From this site and others, I learned the more expensive regulator maintains good flow while reducing the pressure.

Grit and trash in the regulator can also effect the performance of the regulator. So a filter before the regulator makes sense.

I have the regulator (whole house Watts) attached to the cg how bibb. the filter is wall mounted first thing inside the utility compartment.
I have considered mounting the regulator permanently inside but it not high on the to do list! Then the hose can act as a fuse!

I have the same setup, but I haven't actually mounted my dual filter yet, but it is inside the basement. I would like to have my regulator inside so I don't always have to unhook and bring it in when things get below freezing, but I want to protect my hose from high pressure too.
My whole house Watts has been in service for almost 7 years full time, but I have taken it apart, cleaned it, and installed a repair kit twice so far and it is going strong. I always keep a spare repair kit in case local water finally gets to it again.

Last summer I purchased one of these water pressure gauges after replacing the inexpensive (well almost inexpensive) ones each year as the output pressure kept dropping. After the fist season of use I give it an "A+" rating. I have it set for 40PSI which is perfect.
From what I have seen is that most CG's have a constant pressure, especially when we hook up. The problem is when the water pumps at the CG kicks on (or go bad) it is like electrical power there is a surge, where the pressure can jump to 100PSI. Or their water pressure regulator(s) went bad.
I do not like to leave the regulator sitting in the open by the CG hookup for everyone to see and sit in the hot sun so I decided to set it up on the back bumper of the TT. The project is 1/2 completed, as I just purchased a 5'x5'x10' piece of white PVC fence post to cut-up and house the filter, regulator and the water shut-off valve.
I just received a 100PSI water pressure sensor I am installing just for fun (hobby) to see how much the water pressure actually fluctuates. It will record the Highest, Lowest, current and average PSI. I know who really cares, well actually I do.
Will let you know how season two with the regulator goes.

If you change filters often you may want to consider a whole house filter. Not much bigger and the filters are much less expensive, and commonly available.

The only issue that I had was that the water regulator's screen caused an issue at the spigot in one campground. Removing the screen solved the problem.

Was the problem 'stuff' caught in the screen? Where's that stuff going now after it goes through your regulator?

We do regulator, Camco Filter, hose, 90 degree elbow, Cartridge Particulate Filter (in house), and tank. Change Camco Filter every couple of months, particulate filter once a year. We always use the coach water pump. Have had places where water pressure was low, so we just make it non-issue.
For convenience, we used to have the regulator after the Camco filter and hose. Woke up with the hose looking like a snake that ate 5 rabbits. Regulator now goes first. ;-)
