Water Pump

The water pump on my 02 will not imediatly shut off when I first begin to use it. I will need to drain out a couple gal. of water, which seams to have air in it. After this process it will shut off after drawing water from the faucet. It didn't do this when I first purchased my motorhome last year. The pump doesn't leak. What type of seal do these pumps have? Again thanks for the help. Stan

Stan, that would be normal if you don't have all the air out ALL the lines. The pump shuts off when it reaches a predetermined pressure in the line (pressure switch). If you have any air in the lines the pump is trying to compress that air to reach the pressure shutoff point. They don't function very well as air compressors. Bleeding the air out at every use point will solve the problem. (Hot water too, need to get all the air out of the hot water tank). Don't forget outside showers, etc... Everyone forgets about those. Any air in any of the lines will cause what your seeing. I would guess after winterizing this last time you may have one line with some air still in it.

I agree, it sounds like there is air in the lines. After the air is out the system runs normally.

I can bleed the air out, and when I shut it off at night, or for atraveling the next day, I have to bleed the air out again. The last three trips I didn't have that problem, this is something new. I wonder how the air is entering the system? Thanks for the answers so far. Stan

Not sure if this is your issues, but I had a similar issue last summer. I tracked it down to the filter screen housing. The clear piece was full of micro fractures. Water did not leak out, but air was sucked in. A temporary fix was to wrap it in electrical tape for the weekend.
