What are you towing?
We are thinking about towing this year. We have a Mitsubishi Spyder about 10 years old. Instead of going through the hassle of installing the tow equipment on it, we are looking at a different vehicle.
Probably get something 2-3 yrs old.
Any suggestions on what to look at? Which vehicles are easier to install tow gear on.. Towing issues?
All suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
Jim

We have friends with a 5'er and a class C. Suprising to me I was told that both their exisiting cars could not be towed so they went out and bought one that could be towed. Just something to be cautious of as you go out and look.
They told me that not all cars can be towed.

Does anyone know where the list of "towable" cars might me? We plan to tow our 2012 Ford Focus using the tow dolly.

Motorhome magazine also publishes a list, I think the new one just came out and any front wheel drive car can be towed with a dolly.

We had a 2000 Mazda Protege, but that had to be towed with a dolly. Did that for a summer and decided it was too much trouble, so we sold the Mazda and bought a manual transmission 2003 Mazda B2300 pickup. Got the all the towing gear for flat towing on craigslist for $250.
Works like a charm, no problem w/braking. Easy to hook-up, just like a trailer.
Planning a trip to Alaska this summer and think I will need to get a "brake buddy" or similar to be legal in Canada - even though I don't need it.

We tow a Pontiac Vibe / Toyota Matrix, 5 speed, 4 down. Blue Ox tow bar. It's simple to hookup, and since the car is extremely light weight, you don't much notice it's back there.

2010 Honda CRV behind a Greyhawk 31FS. Use a Roadmaster system. Works great.

We tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar and a Brakemaster braking system.
I chose the Grand Cherokee Limited to get the transmission I wanted. This AWD transmission had a feature that allows the driver to push one button to free all 4 wheels for towing. No driveshaft disconnect or locking hubs to deal with. In addition, the sterring wheel is free to move with the key off and removed eliminating the need for a battery disconnect. The only downside at the time was this transmission could only be had with the 5.7 liter V8.
Towing with the Seneca HD 36FS, I found that, when you make a turn, the rear end swing moves the toad so that the toad tracks just outside the turn of the inner RV rear whels. Except for the tighest turns, you can be sure that, if the rear wheels of the RV clear a corner, so will the toad.
We haven't had a problem and the connect / disconect times are fast. The change to the Jeeps appearance is almost unnoticeable except for the missing tow hooks.

Motorhome Dinghy Towing Guide 2012
Here's the link to a great dinghy guide. http://prodcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/...wing_guide.pdf The guide is updated annually. if you substitute the year you can look back several years to get an idea about used toads.
We recently made the move to motorhome from towables. Now instead of a motorhome with detachable motor, we have a flat towable vehicle to tag along.
We bought a 2012 Ford Escape - the 2012 is enough cross-over to let us get off the pavement but still a good ride.
We did a lot of research. GM was very helpful with specific response to Equinox and Terrain that are both flat towable. Too carlike to take berry picking in the woods...

Just purchased a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to tow with our 31FS. Have ordered the BlueOx tow plates, tow bar and accessory kit to have installed the end of next week. Still trying to decide on the braking system, the dealer is recommending the BlueOx Patriot. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on the BlueOx Patriot.
