What is this pipe for?

Have an 08 GH 31ss, and the PO had installed a water filter under the kitchen sink, water was tasting/smelling funky, so I removed the old filter and installed the piece of pipe shown in the picture. This piece of pipe was in the rig when I got it, and it fit in the space and water line fittings when the old filter was removed. Now I have a leak at these connections, and I've tighten them as tight as I dare before breaking them

Should there be washers or gaskets on both ends/connections of this pipe and the female connectors on the water line itself ? The old filter did not have any gaskets/washers that I remember.

There may be tapered washers on both female ends that need to be replaced.

That section of pipe is so the filter can be removed and the water system winterized. And a wrap of Teflon tape to the threads and see what happens

Will try the Teflon tape when I get home, currently using the rig. It's a minor leak but it needs to be fixed.

Where would I get the tapered washers you mentioned Grumpy ? Dealership or ?

If you did not use teflon plumbers tape, that is your problem. I really doubt any tappered washers are needed.

Also it looks as if you threed one side, the other end will un thread.

Both ends have thumb type connections(female) so no tools are really needed in my opinion too sufficiently tighten, but I'm a newb at RV stuff, so I ask dumb ?'s. I found a thread from earlier this year where this pipe in question is for winterizing the RV, so I guessed right on that part, just did not make a good connection. Will try the Teflon tape when I get home tomorrow.

If there are washers they might be in the ends of the filter. If so they might be squashed in to position and could be removed with a flat screwdriver.
