What to Buy on Day One

Just took ownership of our first RV after years in a pup. A 2017 Jayco Greyhawk FS. Now on to purchase the pieces we need that didn't come with it. I'm looking for some advice on specific products to purchase that are necessities. Let's say I have $500 to spend? What should I get?

I have a freshwater hose and water flow regulator already. What's next? Please be specific with your recommendations.

Thanks!!!

I would opt for a Progressive Industries Surge Protector to safeguard your investment (and family).
Oh... congrats!

1st I would buy the best surge protector you can afford,

2nd would be a nice awning mat around the size of your awning.

3rd a couple of outside chairs if you don't have any.

Save the rest of your $500 for after a few trips and look at what others have.

There are gobs of things that everyone thinks you can't do without!

Did it come with a water filter built in? If not I would definitely get one.

I would like to point out that I did purchase a Progressive Industries device (through Amazon) and tried to use it twice. Neither time did it work as advertised, although it did indicate an open neutral. Fortunately the campground was quick to repair the open neutral before I plugged in and the rains came. We are all safe, but the point here is the PI device did not work - it did not pass power, even when showing an open neutral. I reported it to the manufacturer and they sent a replacement device in three days. I now have a new one, but have yet to try it and see if it works. I'll be sure to let you know.

Our PI 30 amp has a delay built into it, so after any power interruption it won't allow power through it for something like two and a quarter minutes. It will seem like a really long time when you're waiting for it. That also allows the A/C compressor to equalize/bleed down, so it doesn't restart on high pressure. If it detects an open neutral OR ground, it won't allow power to the TT, and the display will be off.

According to the manufacturer and its documents it should almost always pass power at initial plug in. My unit, an SSP-30XL, is a big surge device...it reads the power pedestal instantly to indicate the condition of the pedestal. There is no delay when first plugging it in to "test the waters". I have not experienced a surge or loss of power with it, so I don't know its reaction in that event, I'm looking at it from just plugging it in. In any case, with or without this device, any open circuit should be addressed before use. This device was handy for helping me with that, but it would not pass power even with the pedestal fixed. It was defective and was quickly replaced.

Great idea. But I don't know where I'd store it on the road. Suggestions?

I have a Redhawk 29XK and carry my spare in my rear storage compartment. You can also buy a spare tire carrier that mounts in your trailer hitch.

I have the EMS-HW50C, I've been using it for about 2 years. This summer was the first time it started cutting out power. We were at a state park a few weeks ago and the power kept turning off then back on after 15 seconds. Turns out the park was having brown-outs due to the burden on the electrical system and it was working as advertised. I did go in afterward and remove the jumper so it would stay off for the full 2 minutes, my air conditioner does not have a timer of it's own.

Anyway, I hope yours is doing well, after 2 years, I'm finally seeing the benefit of mine.

While you are waiting for your goodies to arrive, read and re-read the literature that came with your RV. Not knowing or paying attention to the "don'ts" in the literature can be costly, etc.

I decided to open the defective unit, just to see what I'm paying $100 for... Found this. I'm going to repair the QC problem and see what I get. Might not be until next weekend for those interested.
