This one Amazon.com: CURT 31006 Spare Tire Mount: Automotive with this cover http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Access...ilpage_o00_s00
New tire and rim set me back $235. I was in $350 by the time I was done. Flats are kinda rare these days but waiting for the right rim and tire from roadside service (and paying double the price) would be annoying. I can't change the tire myself (100 lbs total and my bod won't handle the load, especially the inside tire) but at least I just have to wait for the roadside service.

Don,
I am intrigued... How are you mounting that when you have the Toad on?

Well, as you can imagine, that's a bit of a problem. I couldn't pay $500+ for the mount that also has a hitch for hooking up the toad. Sooooo, I have to take the mount and tire off and put it in the car. It's a pain in the arse, but I just couldn't spend that much for a tire mount.
Since I knew I was going to be doing it this way I went so far as to mount a winch and pulley to my RV port to facilitate taking the spare tire off of the MH.

I had a front hitch receiver put on my greyhawk, and mounted my spare tire there. I did not want to add any more weight to the rear of an already slightly tail-heavy coach.
Not an addition to the units looks, but does not interfere with engine cooling as far as I can tell.

I think a front hitch receiver is also a very good choice. I was concerned about engine cooling and it's nice to know that it's not a problem.
As far as weight goes, I'm closer to being overweight in the front. I'm 100 lbs from the limit in front but have 600 lbs wiggle room in the rear so in my case I think the rear is a better choice. However, if I put it in the front I wouldn't have to hassle with moving the spare when I want to tow.
Just curious how much the front receiver cost you?

Dual Hitch Reciever
I am wondering if a dual hitch receiver might be a good option.
My current set up already has a 2" drop installed for the Toad and that only just brought me into spec. So with my current configuration I could presumably mount the spare above the tow bar on a dual reciever. Although with the 29ME I also have to take the height of the rear slide into consideration.
Thanks to Wyn for posing the original question... You have me thinking... Originally I was comfortable running without the spare and was counting on CAA if I got in a bind. But a few stories I have read on here have me reconsidering my options.

This is what we got...
Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories
Got the dealer to throw it in as part of the deal.
It's rock solid, and still allows us to carry the bick rack (or pull a toad).
The front mount kind was good in the colder months, but it blocked too much air flow in the hot months.

Well rats, I really like the dual receiver adapter but I can't use it in my case. I use a 4" drop receiver to raise the tow bar 4" for my toad. If I do that, then the other hole (the 2" drop) isn't usable for the spare.
The one that would work best for my case is http://www.amazon.com/Roadmaster-195.../dp/B00SQ49S82. However, $500 is just a bit too much. And I'd have to use it with a drop receiver to raise my tow bar by 4".

To answer Hoppers4 - the receiver itself was about $100-$120, and I had my local mechanic mount it for about $150. I think the spare tire mount itself was about $80.
For the Logans - I have driven in some quite hot weather (not Mojave Desert, but hot)over large hills, and the coolant temp has not been affected in any way. I don't think it is an issue at all.

It wasn't the engine temperature, it was the transmission temperature. Apparently the front mounted spare blocked enough air flow through the auxiliary transmission cooler to impact cooling in hot weather, going up-hill.
Sorry for the confusion.
