Bedroom Door Curtain Replacement

I replaced the factory bedroom door curtain with a pocket door.

Parts:
  • JELD-WEN Hollow Core Flush Lauan Slab Interior Door (Common: 30-in x 80-in; Actual: 30-in x 80-in)
  • 100PD Commercial Grade Pocket / Sliding Door Hardware (60")
  • Schlage 991 1-3/4" x 2-1/4" Privacy Pocket Artisan Sliding Door Lock, Aged Bronze
  • Small hook & eyelet (painted aged bronze)

I'm not sure how to tag individual photos, so I will describe in order of appearance:
  1. Finished door- kitchen side
  2. Exisitng curtain door
  3. Door mount (pre-stain)
  4. Finished door - bedroom view
  5. Door mount rail (installed)

I cut down the door to 72"
The door mount is screwed to a roof truss.
The door does not latch into the wall (I didn't want to cut into an exterior wall). I mounted the hook & eyelet to the end of the door and the wall (to stabilize during transport.

Total cost was around $60. The maple used for the door mount was scrap.

Great looking mod!

'Back in the day' when I shortened a door for our basement, there wasn't enough solid lumber at the bottom or top of the hollow door to just cut it off. Did you encounter something similar?

Thanks. I much prefer a solid door to a curtain. I considered an accordian door, but went with the solid core. A little bit of cherry stain and it blended in with the cabinet/trim color.

Yes. I cut down a piece of pine to fit and glued and clamped the piece in the door bottom.
