'17 355 MBQS Trade in

We love our 2017 355 MBQS. It's been a fantastic FW so far. We love the layout and works well for our family.

Our only complaint (which really shouldn't be one) is the queen bed. We stopped by CW and stepped in a few of the north points and pinnacles with the king beds. Man oh man those are nice!

If we were to trade.....just how bad would we get killed on value. I obviously know we're going to get hammered....I would just like some educated advice to see if we would even like to pursue this. Thanks!

People always get caught up in "losing money on a trade" The money was spent the day you bought it. It's not going to cost you anymore to trade it today then 15yrs from now. In some ways it's less costly to trade earlier. It's just in how you account for it.

Let's say you paid $60,000 for a new RV.

In 10yrs you sell it for 15k. So your cost is 45k. If you sell it after 1 year and get 40,000 your cost is 20,000.

Now that's simplistic but don't get caught up in "losing money". That happens the day you sign for any new vehicle.

That's one way to look at it. Using your example here is another:

The first year cost you $20,000 to own your trailer if you trade/sell it at the end of the year.

If you kept it for 10 years and sold it for $15,000 your cost would be $45,000 or $4500/Yr. That's less than 25% of the cost per year had you sold it after year 1.

Now, to complicate matters further: If you purchase a replacement trailer after one year at let's say a cost of $70,000 and keep it 9 years let's say it is worth $20,000. Your total cost on the new trailer was $50,000 or $5,000/Yr. PLUS the $20,000 you lost on the first trailer...So......Another $2000/Yr....Or a total of $7000/Yr. That is 40% increase in cost over having just bought the $70,000 trailer to begin with - It's significant.

I agree with you that you are losing $ either way the day you sign the papers. How much it is worth to you to make a switch is a personal decision. Life is short and if something is significant enough to you perhaps you should spend the $. However, any time you trade a depreciating asset early in its' lifecycle you are taking a MUCH bigger hit $ wise as the example above demonstrates.

I thought the same since most Eagles have a King option. But after looking at his floor plan, there is no King option in that model which tells me that the slide out for the bed isn't wide enough.

That is a bummer, I get where your coming from, we were going to buy a 17 NP but decided to wait and order an 18 NP with a King Bed, makes a big difference in comfort, especially if your used to a king. We too took a hit on our trade, we are trading in a 15 and the trade values vary widely. 1 dealer offered 30,000 another offered 24,000 and another offered 21,000. I ended up going with the dealer offering 30,000 as their price even though it was the highest, the total deal was the best considering we owe 36,000 on our trailer.

This was actually the first thing we looked at. The queen fits snug inside the bedroom slideout.

This makes total sense. I agree with you 100%. We have already taken the hit. I guess this was hard to see getting so causing up in trade values and depreciation. Thanks for the advice.

We took about a 25 percent hit when we traded in our "not even a year old" Coachmen, which was a complete and total nightmare with no end in sight to the issues. So we were motivated beyond belief to part with it and really didn't care how much we had to eat.

If the main issue we had with it was the size of the bed, I would have at least put it up for sale myself to see if we could get closer to what we paid for it than what dealerships wanted to give us. Supposedly, Jayco's in general have better resale values than our Coachmen does so your hit might not be that much.

Use the link below and enter the options you have. It might give you a good idea what your current model is worth/selling for now and give you an idea what to look for on a trade/sale as well.

You can use this as a start but guessing you won't get near low retail on trade in. Low retail is 70% of MSRP which many people get when buying new so no way dealer will give you that on trade.

I always find it interesting how when you go to buy your RV that the one they're selling you is the best thing since the wheel. Then when you go to trade it in all of a sudden it's like you have the worst RV that no one would want.

I bet you'd get mid to high 30's for a trade in value.

We paid more for the queen option in our Pinnacle. The one at the dealer had a king and u would have a hard time getting around it to make the bed. The queen gives u a bunch of room and a nice shelf and cabinet on each side.
