Hi:

Update, For anyone who has the same problem with there AC Unit and is out of warranty. Here is the Part Kit and if your handy can be done very quickly. (Took 30 Min.)

Fan Blade was $45.00 and Grommet kit was $12.99.

I called an Mobile RV Company that was listed on Coleman Mach website and they said I needed to replace the unit. Plus he was $120 Hour and a local RV Dealer near my house was $149.00 Hour and told me 2 hours labor for this repair and can get me in by April 17. My Dealer where I purchased this unit told me we can get you in May 22 and need to see it to give an estimate for repair.

Regards,
ER

Are the grommets updated or the same ones? I special, special ordered my 2nd AC for the bedroom with the mach 8 15k low profile over the standard unit to keep my clearance down. Guess I will need to keep an eye out on those grommets.

2017 Eagle 293RKDS built March 10th. Waiting for it to be shipped to the dealer.

The issue was probably the fan blade. EvoRod, which blade series was the old one, did it have a "D" in the part #?

I heard there was issues with the fans breaking. I also heard they updated the fans. But yes, an out of balance (broken) fan would destroy the mounts. Not sure if his mounts broke and broke the fan or the fan broke and took out the mounts. I also read the updated fans are quieter.

Hi All:

This problem was grommet failure, The first time it happened to the rear unit just when the unit was 1 year old but was on a trip in the keys, (warranty took care of it) now again at 2.4 years. They look like they dry rotted out. Yesterday was doing some general maintenance on the unit and had the AC's on when I heard some grinding sounds. I went up on roof and took cover off and told my wife to turn the unit on when I saw the motor lifting and then....bang the second grommet broke and snapped the blade off.

When this happened last time in was summertime and 1 AC does not keep this
unit cool when its 90 plus out. At night can cool down to a comfortable temp.

My recommendation is if your camping and it happens (If you have this Coleman Mach Model) to keep a grommet kit on hand since this seems to be a common problem, that to get a mobile rv service or work done seems to take some time for them to come out, can ruin your trip for such a simple fix. The Fan you can save if you catch it in time but if your out it will break. New Fan is the same 3 blade that came out of this unit. (Part# 1472B504) Also Grommets look to be the same no updated version.

Hope this helps anyone with the same issues.

Happy Camping,

E.R.

"D" is the newest upgrade. That is what was used on both of my units.

"FAN BLADE KIT FOR MACH 8 1472D5041

This is the newest revision of the Coleman-Mach 8 fan blade. "

Are the people that are having these problems with the low-profile units?

Yes, the mach 8 units. The standard units use one motor for the evap and cond. The low pro uses two motors. One for the evaporator and one for the condenser. The fan upgrade and the rubber isolators are used on the condenser motor.

I have replaced the blades on both of my AC units too. Luckily they happened while under warranty but I still elected for the DIY to avoid dealer down time. The warranty paid for the parts and the repair took about 20 mind each time.

A trick I learned: to replace the rubber grommets, they reccomend you loosen the AC mounting screws, install new grommets and retighten, using cautiin for the roof seal etc. I avoided this by using a butter knife to slide the grommet under the AC and pulling into the unit. Saved alot of extra steps, climbing the ladder and worrying about leaks afterward. Let me know if you have questions about this process.

They are correct about the fan being the issue, not the grommets. The grommets are a side effect from the vibration caused by the fan getting out of balance. We have the same A/C units on our 2015 model and had the same problem. One of the blades had a crack and was pulling away from the hub which caused it to get out of balance and vibrate one of the mounting grommets loose. After researching it I found that there was a design flaw in the blade. There is a corner where the blade meets the hub which is a stress riser and causes a crack to form over time. The new blade has a radius to distribute the stress. I contacted the manufacturer of the A/C unit and received a replacement kit for the failed blade as well as one for the 2nd unit which was still good. I bet they would take care of you since this is a known issue.

Hi All:

Thanks Everyone for the posts, @ charlank Nice post from the Forrest River site, Very informative. It really is a problem how these company's get away with some of there defected products. To me one of the worst are how the factory's put on underrated tires on so many units, the damage it causes and then the tire company results when my tire's blew was undetermined failure, here is a $125.00 credit for new tires.

For me Jayco took care of my tires that my unit was on its way back to the factory for major repair when 3 blew out and caused damage to both wheel wells. (Major Body Repair is a whole other story and still having issues with Jayco to fix it again that its happening on the other side of the unit now and I am a few months out of warranty and I am going back and fourth with them and there telling me that its my problem now.)

Sometimes I feel that this 5th Wheel has been more problematic then enjoyable.

Regards,

ER

Just did this conversion from an "A" 6 blade to a "D" 3 blade and what a difference in the noise level on my unit outside. Neighbors will be happy, no more jets taking off...easily 50% reduction in noise.

Cost me $80.00 to do both units as fighting with Coleman was not getting anywhere.
