2016 Jayco Pinnacle 38FLSA (Brakes)

Help Needed! I have a 2015 Ram 3500 Laramie DRW 4WD truck. When I plug into the trailer it shows it's attached, get brake lights, turn signals and when I press on the brake it shows it sending the signal to the brakes..
If i squeeze the controller to send max power I can just roll my trailer back as if it has no brakes what so ever.
I have 4 option's to choose from in EVIC.. Light Electric, Heavy Electric, Light Electric over Hydraulic and Heavy Electric over Hydraulic.
I only tested with Light and Heavy Electric before returning to the dealership. Will test the other two options Thursday.

Took my trailer to the dealer they couldn't find any issues.. They connected to a Ford and its got brakes, hook it back to my Ram and have no brakes....

I pulled a 2013 Keystone Raptor with this same truck for over 5k miles and never had an issue....

Any other Ram owners seeing or having the same issue? Greatly appreciate any feedback or help.. Our first trip to FL is less then 3 weeks away.

I'm not a ram owner but I have that issue in my Ford
Ford says there's nothing wrong with it.
I drive it at 10 and have very little braking.

Have you tried pulling the breakaway switch to set the trailer brakes with the TT battery?

Are you using the Ford integrated brake controller? If so, IIRC for my '06 when you step on the TV brake pedal, trailer braking is gradually reduced as the vehicle slows down. Manually applying the trailer brakes by using the controller overrides the gradual braking reduction.

My 12 Ram is like that. I recently read that Ram de-rates the voltage at lower speeds which would certainly cause the trailer brakes to not lock up. I do know that if I'm running at 35-?mph and hit the brakes hard for a panic stop the trailer brakes will work. It's really frustrating. I towed the same TT with both my Ram 2500 and a 2010 F150. With the F150 I could set the TBC up like you're supposed to and it was smooth and strong. The Ram feels weak until you have to hammer the brakes.
On a side not I had to take my Ram in for a recall and the dealer said there was a service bulletin for the TBC. I had them do it but haven't towed with it since. Won't know for a month or so if it changed any thing or not.

When squeezing the controller at 10.. Very little braking
I had an 06 and an 09 that worked perfectly.

oldmanAZ, Driving a Ram and using the integrated brake controller on my truck. We tested my pinnacle with a Ford on the lot and it worked flawless.. Seems to be an issue with the integrated controller that Ram uses...

I have a 2015 Pinnacle and tow with a 2015 Ram 3500 SRW. I have mine on heavy electric set at 5 and have no issues.
When setting it to heavy electric and then going back in the display it would not be indicated that it was in fact on heavy electric. It took a few tries before it stayed there. I physically have to be hooked up with the cord plugged in or it won't allow you to set the option for what braking you want

There is a long thread on a Ram forum about this issue and the 2015 HD trucks. Supposedly Ram is looking into it but the thread is becoming old and may have just died. I'm having similar issues with my 2015 and would like better guidance than what is being provided.

I have my Ram on heavy electric set at 6 on the IBC. No issues. Use max manual to test for proper hitch locking and it doesn't move. Not sure if anything is different between the 2014 and 2015.

The brakes might need to be broken in, takes several hundred miles. Mine were weak new but has since gotten stronger after 1000k miles.

To say it's been an interesting two weeks attempting to resolve this brake saga would be an understatement. Went to my local Ram dealer and explained the situation about our new trailer having very soft brakes when using my integrated brake controller. With my built in brake controller's gain set at 10, I still couldn't get the trailer to hold long enough to set my slider from a towing position to a maneuvering position. (And, yes my slider is freshly cleaned and greased)
In working with Ram, they came back with a tech advice basically saying: We are aware that our algorithms in our integrated brake controller are not the best and we are working to resolve. Recommendation was to install a third party controller.
Note: I used this same truck with the integrated brake controller when I towed my Keystone Raptor and it worked perfectly, and never had an issue. Using the exact same truck and setup as I have for the past year and half we hooked up to our new Pinnacle and discovered this soft brake issue.

Interesting Facts:
Keystone Raptor had Lippert Axles and my truck had no issues
Jayco Pinnacle has Dexter Axles and now have soft brakes even at gain setting of 10

Monday morning we installed a third party controller and harness:
Tekonsha Prodigy P3 part #90195 with the proportional wiring harness part # 3024-P.
Took the plug off the back of the integrated controller and plugged the harness directly into it, Was told I would get an error in the evic or counsel and I didn't. I took the truck back to Ram and they plugged into it.. Got a message saying the computer had lost contact with the integrated brake controller. Dealer didn't want to change of any of the sales codes in the on board computer until we test with the new controller.

Will update results upon completion of a driving test hooked into my Pinnacle.

Where did you get this info about Pinnacle having Dexter axels?
I guess it would be obvious by looking at the axel sticker, but why hasn't this ever been mentioned in any threads on this forum?

i too (maybe you've seen the thread) am fighting an unknown weak brake issue on my NorthPoint.

I cant wait to hear of your brake results

But did the 2015 Eagle Premier have Dexter axels too?
The NorthPoint and Pinnacle are built at the same plant. Do they actually get Lippert frames with different axels?

Mine is still at dealer but I was told it is Lippert who is replacing all my defective brakes and Jayco paying labor and for the one new G tire and rim Assy. My owners Manuel says Dexter.

So then north points have lippert axels and pinnacles have Dexter... Hmmm. I'm going to the dealer and crawling under a pinnacle.
Might explain, in the other thread, why Gowesley can lock his pinnacle brakes with the same truck as me and I can't on my NP

I too have a 2016 Pinnacle 36 REQS and am having a "Weak Brake" issue. I'm driving a 2014 F-350 with Ford's integrated system set at 10. My 2012 Eagle 351 RLTS stopped on a dime.. I thought it was just me. Hmmm

Mike, have you been following the major brake problem thread?
It's not just you.
Read Gowesley's post. That's why I'm back looking for answers, now your post has me back to maybe it's my trailer.
