2017 Jayco Pinnacle Questions
Hey all. Brand new here. I have been shopping for a while and have pretty much made the choice of Jayco I want. I have narrowed it down to either the 36KPTS with the large Kitchen or the 36FBTS with the extra bathroom. So I am asking opinions from other Jayco owners.
First let me tell you some of my plans. The wife and I will be full timing in it but will not be traveling for up to 8 years. My plan is to get rid of the killer house payment and I have a great place to park it until I retire.Just a few short trips here and there to keep things moving.
My questions are mainly things that make it more 'livable'
Is the one with the front bathroom worth the lost space in the Kitchen/ Living room area? The bathrooms seem to take up a lot of space. If I decide against it for the Kitchen pantry setup how do you feel about the Changing space in the bedroom.
Kind of a rough decision. Do I want a large ft bathroom with a changing area and a second bathroom off the kitchen? Or is the extra living space more desirable?
Opinions please
Thanks!
Steve
Hope this makes sense as I ramble on!

We love our 36fbts . The extra bathroom was a must for us and that was why we went with it . It is nice my wife can bath the grandkids and get them dressed all in the same area without having to walk out into the bedroom

I also love my FBTS layout. Spent two straight months this summer in it and have now been full timing since Nov till late this summer. Second bathroom is great and the big front bath is a nice separate dressing area. The kitchen and living area still has plenty of room. We both are still working till this summer and this layout is perfect for mornings getting ready.

We got our new 2017 36kpts in May of last year and have put about 4000 miles on it and 50 nights in it. For Lizanne and I we rather have the king size bed and large kitchen/living room. The bathroom is big enough for us and Lizanne has plenty of room to get ready in the bedroom.
They are both great units, good luck with your search.
Thanks Bill& Lizanne

Hi Steve!
We may be in a similar situation, I retired last year but my wife won't be retiring for another 4 years. Obviously, you two should just go with the floor plan that best fits your unique needs. In our case, we purchased a 36FBTS and are very pleased so far. For a dude that is closing on sixty, that 2nd bathroom right off the main living area is just plain handy and we use the exra cabinet storage for cleaning supplies, bulk paper products etc...
Some observations/suggestions on the 36FBTS:
1. It's a heavy trailer. Before the rig left the lot, I paid the man and upgraded to GY G614 tires.
2. If you go with the King bed (we have two spoiled German Shepherds!), you lose the end stands and get a small shelf on each side. The King also makes for tighter access on each side. I am a big guy and manage okay but you always know where the wall is.
3. The 36FBTS has 2 gray and 2 black tanks which all combine into a single waste dump pipe w/cap. Again before leaving the lot, I had the dealer install an additional Bladex style shut valve at the very end of the waste pipe. This effectively eliminates any unpleasant surprises when you remove the end cap.
4. My rig came with the motorized 50 Amp cord reel. It had a funky metal cross brace that makes reeling in the cord a pain (binds up). During our PDI, the tech candidly recommended that I cut it off as soon as I got home- which I did.
We have one season of camping in the rig and other than some minor warranty issues, the 36FBTS is quite an upgrade from our previous rig.

The other thing nice about the front bath is that is where the washer drier is and not in the bedroom

The front bath becomes the laundry room on weekends. And full timing that is nice. Lost two shelfs with washer install but added one back to keep DW happy.

Hello, we JUST picked up our new 2017 36fbts YESTERDAY! We drove it home and put it in storage today until May 1 when we will take it to our lot in upper Michigan for the summer months. Our demo went great and so far there has been no issues straight out of the factory! It is gorgeous! Before ordering the FBTS, we also were considering the KPTS as well, tossing between the two. I am a cook, we never go out to eat, and the kitchen in the KPTS appealed to me right away. It had more cupboard space and counter space than the FBTS....but...we didn’t care for the washer/dryer in the bedroom or the confined bath at all. After much thought we did settle for the FBTS as that front bath is like no other and much more open up front. Another plus was the ½ bath...great for company/sleepovers/husbands bath ... ect... So... I tried to think it through as much as possible (sleepless nights) where to put my kitchen things and I do think that the pantry will make up for the lost cupboard space. Now, I am not one that fills cupboards with unnecessary items...that much... In our previous RV we had a tiny pantry and never filled it. I buy what we eat/need in a week and that’s it... therefore I am confident one pantry shelf should do for our food items....leaving the rest of the large shelves for other kitchen things like pots and pans dishes and such. Then you have under the sink that is quite empty and large as well along with two good size overhead cupboards in the ½ bath. Then what doesn’t fit (don’t use much) in the kitchen will go in the hold in bins...crock pots/large pots/ ect things I won’t use often. ...we haven’t reloaded yet, will do that when the weather breaks..so I hope my plan works! But I think with your retirement plan the FBTS would be more of a livable/comfortable layout for full timing. If you don’t plan on using a w/d then you will have TONS of space...we had a w/d installed at the dealership, we lost that space but I am still confident all will work out okay! Good luck!!

Glad you started this post. Just sold our 2015 27DSRL (loved it) and we are also trying to decide between the same two units you are looking at. Loved the 27DSRL but we have retired and plan to spend months instead of weeks at a time camping and would like a little more room. Also looked at the Northpoint 315RLTS - I am a little concerned with maneuvering the extra width and length of the Pinnacle. Also looking at a VanLeigh Vilano 365L.

Has anyone had any problems with the main slide (refrigerator/stove slide)? We just went out for the 2nd time in our brand new 2017 36FBTS (Pinnacle) for a test voyage prior to upcoming mega-trip and the slide would only crank out on one side. After a phone call to the dealer, we were advised there is no manual override for the slides in this model and it appears one of the two motors went out. We had to hook up and drive the 3+ hours back home because the entire kitchen is pretty useless unless you open that slide.

I had mine cock and stop several times the first few uses. Dealer re-syncd the system and since than no problems. Make sure u are plugged into Shore power or at least the truck with engine running. Do not stop when moving slide, make sure all is clear inside and out and than hold button and when fully extended or retracted continue to hold button for at least five seconds. U will hear the motors re sinc.
Yours sounds like a bad motor or maybe a bad wire. Ask the dealer which motors u have. I have 300 to 1 and the latest are 400 to1 to give more Tq. Your bedroom slide is the same. On the dinning slide it is different. Just hold the button until it stops and u can stop it anytime. I open my living slide about a foot so I can get in coach and inspect both slides to ensure nothing has moved and will jam the slide movements.
Jayco recommends to level unit first than move slides. I have called and talked to their tech who said that is what is recommended but if it works better for u to open slides first than do that. But look at every dealers lot, no leveling and all slides open.

As full timers for several years we've had a motorhome with the second half bath and now our 2016 Pinnacle with the half bath and would have no other. Just the convenience alone for the two of us and occasional guests and family, it's just the cat's meow

Keep us posted on what the problem was and on the motor ratio, curios if they went with 400 to 1. I called Jayco during build and told them I would pay to get the 400 to 1 with steel shaft. They said no they have no problem and no plans to change.

I wouldn't trade my 36FBTS for any other model. Having the large bath w washer/dryer is very comfortable and spacious. When we have guests, they have their own 1/2 bathroom which is also convenient. Only downside is that there is one more black water tank to empty and flush. It takes a few extra minutes.

Oh I agree with u. The floor plan is super and the storage room is way more than enough. So now we have spent two months at my camp in Keene N Y and now two more here in Clearwater Fl until June. Than up to the FL panhandle Mexico Beach waiting for our new stilt house. This FBTS is so liveable. We will than be snowbirds spending four months at a time in it. Ya I have some problems which Jayco will fix once I am not full timing. Jayco has been great CW Tampa has been a joke. The only thing I miss about my house i just sold is my hot tub. But my travel park has a heated pool.

Well thank you all, Looks like you are tipping me towards the ft bathroom model. Think another road trip is in order as they do not carry the pinnacle here in Las Vegas!

Dario- There should be a controller for that slide. Ours is in the small bathroom storage area under the sink. If you push the button 6 times and hold it on the 7th you should be able to "over-ride" the system and move the slide in or out. Go on Schwintek's web site and look for a down load for both troubleshooting and operation. We have been staying in our FBTS since Nov. and really enjoy the layout. Hey Rock- I guess we're not snowbirds anymore as we bought a site here in our park so now we are Florida taxpayers!? LOL
