30amp to 50amp

Just had our local Jayco dealer switch our 5th wheel camper over from 30amp to 50amp. They also wired the camper for a second ac and installed the ac.

They did such a great job we are looking forward to staying cool next summer.

About how much did that conversion and AC installation cost?

Did they actually replace all the wiring with larger (12 gauge) wires ? If so, I would be interested to know how they did the replacement inside the walls. Just curious.

We had some hail damage to our roof and had to have a new roof put on while they had the roof off they dropped in some new wiring for the second ac and upgraded the breaker panel to 50 amp. They removed the back box that the 30 amp cord coiled up into and just put a 50amp marine plug in place of it. It ended up running a little under 2k.

If they did not upgrade the wire from the 50A plug to the panel to #6, it's not up to code, a safety hazard, and a fire danger from overheating undersized wire, and in the event of an electrical fire, your insurance is probably not going to cover you. The wiring from the panel on is OK as the loads on those circuits is not going to change. It would pay to check it out.

I would think that they had to, since the 50A has 2 hot legs where the 30 has 1.

You would hope so, but in doing marine air conditioning and electrical work for 15 years, I've seen people do some really strange things
