I don't need no stinkin' 5er.
I think you are making a wise decision....., IMO the CAT scale visit would give you the same conclusion.

Holy Cow. We have a 2010 Lariat with the 3:73 and 5.4L Supercrew and our payload is 1430! I didn't think it was even possible to get that kind of payload! We also have the 24FBS and are in the same quandary as to how much larger we can safely pull with our existing truck, but a 5th wheel isn't in the cards based on our payload.

The truck has extremely how mileage because it's only used to pull the trailer. And it's loaded to the hilt, so would be very pricey to replace with a comparably equipped 250 or 350. So we are now considering a 27 foot Jayflight. However, even it is getting a bit up there for weight, so might need to go with a Whitehawk instead.

The make 1/2 tons like driving a Caddy, that's why they put on light springs and that keeps the truck around the 1500 lbs. Put on 3/4 ton springs and you have a HD Half ton while the rest of the suspension is still the same.

When you put on Air Lift 1000 you will get close to an 1000 lb extra weight capacity, but it will not increase what the GVER sticker says. My rule of thumb always was; for a 5er you need a minimum of 3/4 ton to carry that over 2000 lbs pin weight. For a trailer over 30 ft. you are also better off with a 3/4 ton. It is not the horse power in nowadays trucks but it is the GVWR what gets you in trouble. Soon RV get 50 ft and you'll have to get a semi + First class License.............

I would like to make a comment about your power plant. It appears that since you live out West, you may be traveling through some mountain passes. A 5.4L will be taxed to the limit in an 09 model. Your capacities seem to be adequate, which is somewhat surprising.

I am very suspicious of the "designed for a half-ton" claim. To my knowledge only Ford allows you to use a fifth wheel hitch in their 1500's, GM definitely prohibits it in the owner's manual, I think Ram does too.

Unless you have one of those unicorn 2015+ F150's with the heavy payload package and >2000# of payload, I would personally not try this. I have looked into because I was considering upgrading to an Eagle HT 29.5BHDS in the next few years, but after looking through all of the Eagle HT's there is not one I would tow with a 1500.

I have never towed a 5er, but I assume that unlike a bumper-pull with WDH, the pin weight is not adjustable. That means if you are over payload, there is nothing you can do to fix it.
