I am very suspicious of the "designed for a half-ton" claim. To my knowledge only Ford allows you to use a fifth wheel hitch in their 1500's, GM definitely prohibits it in the owner's manual, I think Ram does too.
Unless you have one of those unicorn 2015+ F150's with the heavy payload package and >2000# of payload, I would personally not try this. I have looked into because I was considering upgrading to an Eagle HT 29.5BHDS in the next few years, but after looking through all of the Eagle HT's there is not one I would tow with a 1500.
I have never towed a 5er, but I assume that unlike a bumper-pull with WDH, the pin weight is not adjustable. That means if you are over payload, there is nothing you can do to fix it.
