5th Wheel Campsite Stability
I'm looking to help stabilize my 5th wheel with a king pin jack stand and/or jacking wheel chocks. I'm really thinking about purchasing both and since they cost about the same (at least the ones I've priced), which one gives more bang for the buck? Or is it a toss up? There will be a fair amount of time between the purchases and I'd like to start out with the better of the two. Anyone got a preference?

I have the X-chock tire locking that goes between the 2 wheels. Works great.I do not have a King pin stabilizer. Looks to me like the king pin would take a lot of room and be trouble to install.

I would go with the wheel chocks first. Pretty good bang for your buck with them.

I've heard the king pin stabilizers don't work very well. But I do not own one nor have I tried it. Just hear say. For stabilization on my new unit I plan on the JT strong arm stabilizers or something similar. A little pricey but look like they work well.

I also have x-chocks and no pin jack. With 4 kids running all over the place my unit doesnt move much at all

I have both and they compliment each other very well. I would go with the chocks first then the pin. Mine folds up very nice and fits well into my front compartment with no issues. IMO it doesn't take up too much room for the benefit it gives.

X2 If you hang a sign on the hitch pin, it will tend to dance with out a support when the DW walks around in side. We made up a kingpin support and carried it for a while. Didn't think it was worth the effort.

For my money, the best combination is X-chocks and a good trailer stabilizing system. Our Steadyfast system and X-Chocks have been very good at reducing movement to the bare minimum. With just the chocks, there is just enough movement to produce an annoying little spring squeak. Lock the Steadyfasts down, and the noise is gone. We did not try a K-P stabilizer...the Steadyfasts are permanently attached under the trailer, so no extra space is needed, and I don't have to fight with carrying a K-P stabilizer out and setting it up.

I use the X chocks and the plug-it-right fifth wheel stabilizer. Hardly any movement at all anymore. I prefer stabilizers over king pin jacks due to easier and faster set up and take down and no need to find a storage spot for a jack either.

Good choice. We have the xchocks and a pin tripod. I use them both, but believe the xchocks do most of the work. There is still some wiggle with both, but can live with that.

I have both the x-chocks and king pin stabilizer plus I like to utilize a 2X4 c-clamped at a diagnal across the landing gear legs. The three work okay.

I use the X-chocks and 4 of the cheap stackable screw jacks sold at walmart. The screw jacks go 1 in front and 1 in back of the tandem wheels on each side, under the spring supports. The X-chocks took out about 75% of the wiggle, and the jacks eliminated about another 20%. We can live with the rest easily.
