Adding A/C outlets in a 30.5 BHLT

2014 30.5 BHLT has almost no outlets in the living area, 2 over the stove and 2 in the entertainment center cabinet. Wife wants more near the left side of the sink and something under the entertainment on the outside cabinet wall. Near the couch would be great as she can use here Kindle and charge at the same time.

Suggestions on where to tap existing wiring or adding another independent circuit. Anyone done this mod?

I added an outlet in the entertainment center cabinet. Mine is a 2011, so it may be slightly different. You could very easily add one under the sink area, just be sure you use GFI. Behind the couch should be an outlet there already for the inflatable mattress.

The entertainment one should be easy with power above. I am not sure about the above the sink, run wire inside cabinet? I looked in the controller and it looks like I can tap there again with wires inside the lower cabinet.

Behind the couch, never had it out, I'll have to look. That's not a very convenient place if it's there but might be another easy tap to get one reachable in the slide area.

I have nothing specific to your trailer.

Unless you plan to power extra space heaters or high loads there is no reason to add a new circuit. Just expand on existing circuits to add convenience receptacles. That can often be done by tapping into existing receptacles.

My 23b had a very poor access receptacle under the one U dinette bench. Way back in the corner. I easily added a receptacle near the sofa end within the same cabinet/water heater space. It puzzles me as to why Jayco didn't use that location.



Another method is using Wiremold surface mount products. There are receptacle box extenders to make tapping easy. Wiremold isn't invisible, but there are many choices so it can blend fairly well.

Those look like great mods. I checked and there is no outlet behind the couch but there is a metal junction box. I have not traced the wires to see where they go but it should be a simple tap. I was looking for addition convenience outlets in useable areas not a couple hidden ones.

I doubt I will run large space heaters, I used a small heater in the winter to help with moisture. Living in NM the biggest problems sun damage and the campers in a carport when not in use.

So I finally got around to adding the A/C outlet above the sink for the wife. All parts for the install came from Lowes

I found the cabinets have a false bottom and decided to remove the inside floor as it's out of sight if the project goes wrong. I genitally pried the floor up and removed all the staples after it was loose. The floor was too large to get out of the cabinet and propped them up. This was the hardest part of the project.

Under the cabinet floor I found the original factory outlet and holes drilled between the cabinets for factory wires. Find the location you want the new outlet and drill a hole for the wire to pass to the underside of the cabinet in the location. I used a 3/4" paddle bit. I then added wire form the existing outlet on the right side. I ran the wire in the bottom of the cabinets to the new outlet left of the sink. Connect to the new outlet and screw the new outlet to the bottom of the cabinet.

I put the cabinet floors back in place without the stapes as I think they will stay in place with the weight of the items inside. ( I can get back in easly if theres a problem )

Not pictured cloths rod moved forward so the closet doors close w/o cloths in the way.
