No problem, at least I am learning about a new type vehicle being a Ford man for the last 2 Diesels. Ram was junk back in 97 when I bought the first diesel. It's plain to see they got into the truck business!

Inthewind,

My opinion is that, anything over 8 or, 10,000 lbs is too much for a gas engine of any kind. Especially if, you will be pulling thru hills and mountains. But, then I'm not familiar with the late model magnum engines.

I would suggest that you pull this 5th wheel with this truck for a couple or, several good length trips to see how it performs. Then, judge and decide from there if you need more truck.

If you do decide you need more truck, I would not hesitate to look at any of the 1 ton SRW diesels. Because, what if you want to get a bigger 5th wheel some day. My motto has always been, "you never have too much truck".

Only my 2 cents.

Inthewind,

Guess my previous post is history! I only read your original post before I replied.

You will not regret getting that truck!! It will pull that new 5er like nothing is back there!

Congratulations!

This truck is going to take some getting used to! The back wheels tend to hop some under normal acceleration from a stop with nothing in tow or being hauled. Is that normal with the amount of torque this thing has?

Go to hardware store like lowes and buy 10 50lb bags of gravel and put in the back when your not towing .. I did in mine and it helps a lot plus if you ever find you don't need them in truck you can use them for garden or landscape .. they are cheap

Are you kidding??
A 70k$$ truck and you have to carry gravel in the back?
No... This isn't normal.
I can floor my truck from a stop and it does nothing but pin me back in the seat.
Same with my 2006 super duty with a programmer and my 2009...no hopping, no gravel.

Oh... That makes sense.
Inthewind, I'd be looking into that a little bit.

Thanks Big1, I was in for just under 25, retired 1SG. I'd had enough after that long! Besides, anything over 20 and you're basically working for half your pay!

I guess that was why I gave the Air Force 14 years, instead of 20!

Yep, I agree I got out as a MSG and I am glad I did it but I don't think that I could do it now for what I understand the military have change big time. So how are you enjoying your new rig?

Just gotta take the leap! We did it to spend time with our daughter while she's away at college. We went with the 317RLOK because it's "just" big enough for the 2 of us and has everything we would ever need interior wise.

We also went to a show and got show pricing so it wasn't as bad as retail. Almost $20k below list, so that's the route I'd go again as well.

Good luck!

Wow, man I just did a Google of your trailer, what a awesome looking 5th Wheel now I'm jealous, (just joking) I love it. The wife and I are looking at the Eagle 27.5 HT RLTS and the wife spoke to me just last night and told me that she want one now, I told her too don't push me in fun and game.
