Axle flip on 29.5BHOK

Does anyone know how much the ride quality will be affected by flipping the axles and raising the suspension to the lowest hole?

I have the Jayco 29.5BHOK and ride height while loaded is 6" higher in the front. I know there have been a lot of conversations about flipping the axles and lowering the suspension to the lowest hole. I currently have the ability to do both and am just wondering how much the ride will be affected by doing so?

Has anyone driven one of these things before and after this work has been done? Also, any ballpark figure on costs?

The dealer is saying doing so would raise the trailer 3-4", which would make it much more level while towing.

I flipped the axles on my 24 ft car carrier/cargo trailer and it ended up being more like 6 inches. You have to include the thickness of the spring pack.

I doubt it changes the ride any but it will certainly raise the center of gravity. I would do it to my TT if need be with no worries. To do it yourself the cost in minimal. Axle flip kits from Dexter are $30 each and you need 2. If you had to pay somebody I heard it could be $1000.

I thought the Eagle HT's we're already configured this way from the factory. Mine was. The flipped axle part.

As to the spring bolt holes, I moved mine down. It only made a modest difference.

My 2017 Eagle HT 27.5RKDS already had the axle on the bottom of the springs from the factory. I am considering dropping down to the lower hole on the spring perch though.

I'm definitely not that mechanically inclined, and maybe got my flips flipped around. If the springs ride above the axle is it already flipped?

If that's the case then the only thing i can do is change holes on the "spring perch" and then bigger wheels/tires?

That is correct.

Get your trailer loaded and ready to camp and get some measurements.

With TV and 5er hooked up park on a level area. At the pin location measure from ground to top of bed rail, call this "Measurement #1".

Now chock the 5er wheels and disconnect the TV from the 5er, pull TV clear of the fiver, then level the 5er (with the front jack’s only). Then at the pin measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the 5er overhang, call this "Measurement #2"

Now time for math (measurement #1 + 6") - measurement #2 = needed lift at axles.

(from rhagfo on RV.net) Thanks

Take some pictures of your axle and suspension and post them on here. Always a lot of help for you on the forum.

vikefan7, basically, that's correct with two more options ... lower your 5th wheel hitch and/or put shorter tires on your truck. I don't think you have mentioned how much space is above your bed rails both at the top of the tailgate and at the front of the FW. You need at least 5" for odd angle clearance.

Thanks for the clarifications, for some reason i thought the service manager had drawn the pictures of flipping the suspension for me in reverse.

I have roughly 6 inches of clearance at the bed rails and around 4" of clearance at the tailgate. That's the part that has me the most concerned. I have the pullrite slider so there are no adjustments to be made there.

I've already scraped up a bike rack i put on the hitch going out of a moderate decline coming out of a gas station. I don't know if it's the fact that i kind of had to turn hard to get out or if i'd have a worse time coming out of a bigger decline. All of this has me super paranoid about pulling into anywhere, which makes for uncomfortable trips for the kids, no bathroom breaks, and them whining that they want to stop for food etc.

Next year i plan on taking the rig out to Glacier Park and i don't want to have to worry about pulling into service stations. So far i've been taking relatively short trips, so i just go get gas without the TV when necessary.

Wow, you are at quite an angle. I had forgot to suggest that you could also raise the pinbox, effectively lowering the FW but you are to low now at your tailgate. Sounds like taller tires/wheels and lowering the springs to the bottom hole on the spring perch is your only option ... short of shorter tires on your truck or a lift on the FW suspension system.

Need advice-To Flip or not to flip-AXLES

We have a 2015 Jayco 29.5 BHDS 5th wheel trailer, in the past we had pulled it with a 2012 F250 Diesel (hitch was a Pro series type hitch w/ the rails)
We just purchased a 2017 F350 Diesel, and of course couldn't use the old hitch, so we had to purchase the Anderson Ultimate 5th wheel hitch. The new Ford is taller than our old ford, we have about 6" clearance from the bottom of the trailer (the front that sits in the bed of the truck) to the truck's side rails. This is a not enough clearance for the roads we will be on...We have moved the King Pin up as high as it will go, and we can move the Anderson ball up 1 more time...but that will make us bottom heavy.
How do I know if paying the money to flip our axles will work? And will that make it too high?
IS there anything else that can be done? We cannot be the only one who has this issue.
We live in a small town and I would have to take an hour or so away to have someone even look at it.
Anyone?

idahome, your springs are already on top of the axle, so the only other things you can do is add blocks under the leaf springs, upgrade tires to 16", install correct track, or have a sub frame built.
You can search and find many people that have had this problem including me.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I have searched the internet, but didn't go to the forum until now. I will look into it further.
