Battery 12v problems

I have shore power hooked up and replaced two old batteries on 2005 Jayco Designer and when 12v cut off is on everything works inside but when off nothing works but batteries recharge. If I leave on 12v and shore power batteries start to drain?? I can take a battery charger run from shore power and hook to batteries and then I can run everything and batteries don't drain!! PLEASE help going away this weekend and need to fix.

I have a 2003 Designer and had a similar experience this spring. In my case, there are (2) 30A fuses on the converter and I believe (1) is for the charging circuit and the other feeds the internal circuits. Possibly you have blown one of the fuses on that converter.

Boclark can you tell me where on your rig the inverter was located? I have been unable to locate mine I was told most are located by where power cord comes in at but still havent found mine. Thank you in advance.

Check under the fridge as shown in this 2005 JAYCO Designer 31RLS google photo.

This is where your 120VAC circuit breakers and 12VDC fuses are located. On the 12VDC side you see the two large REVERSE POLARITY fuses off to themself. You may also have a in-line fuse close to the battery terminals that needs checked. What causes these fuses to blow is connecting the battery terminals wrong polarity or possible sparking them when you was removing the cables etc. They can also blow these fuses if you get a shorted cell in your battery and the converter output is looking into a very large battery load trying to re-charge it. This can happen to your battery if you let it boil out fluids and not keep tabs on the fluid level in the battery.

The converter is usually under the power distribution panel in a small compartment.

Hi mguent... I am not sure about your converter location but mine is under the stairs accessible from the garage. There is a panel with about 8 screws that needs to be removed, The converter is behind that in my model. Good luck!
