Bedroom A/C tripping breaker

The bedroom a/c unit continually trips its 20amp breaker especially when fan is set to high. When we first setup it is an every 20 minutes we're resetting the breaker. As the coach cools it turns into an every 45 minute issue until by the second day, maybe three or four times a day it pops. Dealer thought it was because other things are using power like the coffee pot, water heater, etc., but none of them go out when the a/c breaker pops. This is a new Pinnacle 36FBTS - anyone with same issue? Solutions?

Loose wire? Check the set screw holding the wire. Could also be a bad breaker, they do go bad on occasion.

Do you mean in the a/c unit itself or behind the breaker panel?

At the breaker, but first disconnect all AC power from the RV.

Could also be a voltage drop in the campground, which would cause your AC to use more amperage to do the same work load. May want to get a meter you can plug into an outlet and monitor the voltage in the RV. 5% drop in voltage will cause a 5% increase in amps used...possibly pushing the breaker past the point of tripping.

Good Luck..

Yep...our bedroom ac unit does occasionally trip, but I'm sure it's power issues in our campground. I've checked the incoming power and it fluctuates when the campground is full.

This is fairly common. The closer you are to the transformers, the better the voltage will be. But it may end up being too much for the transformers they have in the system. If that is the case, the voltage in all the sites supplied by that transformer will likely be low. I had this happen in 110 degree heat at the Colorado River about 15 years ago, and it wasn't pretty. The only solution is to avoid camping there when it's crowded, or try a different part of the campground. If you have a meter, you can test voltage at different areas of the campground to see if it's better in some parts. Essentially, the lower your voltage drops, the greater the current the motors will draw, and the hotter your motors will run. At some point, it trips the breaker. But what you don't always see is the damage it's doing long-term to your motors.

As previously mentioned, the easy things are the ones to check first. Voltage, wiring connections. If that's not it, try a new breaker. They aren't expensive. If that doesn't solve it, you may have something wrong with the motor or compressor. They sometimes do die a slow death.

Just got back from dealer … apparently the plenum return air space was blocked by a flap of plastic causing the cold air to continue to recirculate constantly freezing the unit. They've had this unit two other times and claimed to have checked everything finding during those checks loose wires and faulty grounds but never solved the problem. This solved the problem.

Nice. As long as it works as advertised, all is good.
