Bird nest

Yesterday, I was setting on my back porch watching the grass grow. I noticed a Starlin(bird) land on the electric wire. The bird had something in its mouth. I thought to myself, he is building a nest somewhere. I continued to watch, the bird flew down an under the front of my 5th wheel and disappeared. I went to investigate. The bird was building a nest in the void behind the front cap. He was entering through a small space between the pinbox and the skin of the camper. I had never noticed that small slit. Utilizing a wire, I started pulling nesting material out. Dang near a bale of hay. Once removed, I plugged the slit.

Moral of the story. I'm not using the camper often enough!!!!!

It's a pretty common occurrence in the spring. After finding a nest with eggs in mine and no momma bird, after a days drive. I made a plug with some screen wire and expanded foam packing to wedge in there.

It has survived many trips.

I had them trying to nest in the space above the slide and the toppers. I plug the void with fist-sized nerf footballs and stick whirligigs in the ends of the topper rollers. Seems to work. Neighbor at the storage facility gets them in the pin box. I covered the openings with plasti-core.

I have a Ford F350 that I only use one or twice a week. it is parked by my barn. Every day I raise the hood and take a birds nest from behind the battery. The same for my tractor, these Starlings are persistent! I have a friend that caught his tractor on fire because they built a nest on the manifold and he missed it. So far they have left the RV alone!
