Coleman ac not starting with generator

I have a 1997 Coleman AC on my RV and it runs fine when I am plugged into house electricity but when I go to use my generator it does not want to start sometimes it will most times it won't so I was reading online and some people said to use a hard start capacitor so I purchased one an SPP 6 starter power RPAC hard start capacitor but it says on the package install only with PSC equipped with run capacitor I don't know what this means so I don't know whether I should install it or not can somebody help me thank you very much.

Does this help?
https://yorkcentraltechtalk.wordpres...ut-capacitors/

I would do some reading on forums of people who have done this and it may give you more info. If not, I would hold off until you are sure of which way to go.

Your generator may not be supplying the voltage needed. Low voltage can cause this problem and can eventually damage the compressor. If you have the 15K BTU roof A/C, and/or because the unit is 18 years old, it may require a strong 120V supply. Smaller generators struggle with the demand for starting a compressor motor. I suggest you check your generator's voltage supply and ensure it is up to the task.
