Don't get trapped inside baggage compartment!

Hello everyone;
This may have been covered by someone in the past, but please be aware that it might be possible for a curious child to become trapped inside the baggage compartment of your FW if a compartment door was left open.

Our 2014 30.5BHLT has two baggage doors, one on either side of the camper. The doors have Southco slam latches, and if they close, there isn't any way to unlock them from the inside.

I have discovered that Southco makes a emergency latch egress handle that screws into an existing hole on the inside of the latch. We have bought and installed them, and it allows the slam latch to be opened from the inside of the baggage compartment. It is basically a screw with a red plastic cap on the end.

They were about ten dollars each.

I think that they should be factory installed.

Hope this helps someone.
Robert

I think you are right but the factory probably deems them for cargo use only and probably has a sticker some where saying it

I will add that there is no way a child could get into mine with all the crap i got stuffed in there. Lol
Guess i got that from my Dad. He always said"better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it"

Twice I have had the slam door hold open latch break and have been glad it wasn't while I was inside winterizing or de-winterizing, or running wire for an upgrade.
