Eagle HT 27.5 rlts and half ton trucks

Hi all- was curious who has a 2015/2016 Eagle HT 27.5 rlts and an F150 to tow with?

I am looking for experiences, issues, etc... towing with a half ton. I currently have an 2012 F150, with the tow package, but not Max tow. I live in FL (flat) so no worries with western rockies, etc...)

I am looking at purchasing a 2016 HT 27.5 rlts. I understand and respect the opinions of the tow police. I understand you can never have too much truck, etc...

Please chime in with stories.

thanks
Dan

First off we need to know your truck's payload which can be found on the inside door jamb of the driver's door. That will be the determining factor with a 5th wheel and a half ton.

My front GAWR is 3600, Rear 3850. Payload is 1830 lbs, just 2 of us.

I am just wanting to know who has the combo and how it drives, etc...

I currently have a 27' TT and looking to upgrade.

I recall a member, Boubou, who was very active for a while but not so much lately. They had an Eagle HT and a Ram 1500. Can't be sure of the years.

Might be worth looking up her posts and seeing what their experience has been.

Again, I have not seen many posts recently from them but a PM will go to the email address on file which might reach them if you want to try to correspond directly.

Just my thought. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Per Jayco's site: Dry weight 7,880 and Hitch weight of 1,525

I know I will be close (or slightly over), but hoping others will chime in on their experiences...

We have a Jayco Eagle HT 26.5 and tow with a 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi, 8 speed auto. Factory Heavy duty radiator, factory transmission cooler. I added heavy duty timbrens, and replaced the OEM tires wtih 10 ply, 1 size bigger tires.

We just returned from a 1750 mile, two week trip and had no issues. We towed throughout Texas in 100 plus temperature, including some decent climbs in the Texas Hill Country. I kept an eye on the gauges and we never got close to overheating. I never exceed 60 mph, so just take you time and enjoy.

Finally: We were careful not to overload the bed of the truck. We didn't put two 125 lb loaded coolers in the truck. We waited till we reached our destination to buy groceries, drinks, etc.

Just a word of caution my Eagle Ht29.5BHDS came in almost 1000lbs over jayco's "dry hitch weight" so if you are just going by Jayco's #s you maybe in for a surprise when you pick it up. After I purchased my HT I upgraded my TV and am soooo happy I did! I have not worried a bit while towing and I just love the exhaust brake!

Do like I did buy it and when the wife gets in start complaining how she drives and handles. Boom new truck. The problem then is you wished you would of gotten a bigger camper now that your TV is upgraded. The only thing I know for sure with my combination of tvs and campers is..... The best upgrade I have gotten is the Longbed. No worries about back glass.

This is just another thread that the 2 side won't agree on but here it is again, just because it can pull it doesn't mean it should pull it! Just because it pulls it fine doesn't mean that it is in with the rear axle weights, just because it is over on weights doesn't mean somewhere down the road the DOT won't scale it and then park you, or worse you find yourself in a situation where close isn't good enough!

The one thing that i don't regret is upgrading my TV. This summer pulling the hills in Ontario or the mountains in Vermont and New Hampshire I have not once had to even think about whether I had to worry about anything to do with the TV or trailer or if I had enough or not!

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I probably will start out using my current F150, and if not functional or don't like the ride, then I might go up and get the new F150, which weight-wise it will handle.

I am in flat Florida, so again hills are not my issue. This thread was started out for the guys who currently have the f150/1500 and eagle HT 27.5 rlts combo - I wanted their feedback.

thanks to all who chimed in.
