Eagle HT fresh water siphoning?

anyone else having this issue? basically when your filling up the tank it will start coming out of the over flow but keep flowing for quite awhile after you stop filling

well mine has been in at work for the last couple of days and they believe that capping off one of the drains has fixed it, i will update you guys when i get it home tomorrow

i just wanted to post this cause i remember seeing some other people with the same issue

I put shut offs on mine, and leave them open while filling, then once they start dripping, I close them and I can add 15 more gallons of water, till it come up the filler, then after an hr. I open the valves and let them drain for 30 seconds and close them.

Shutoffs on the overflows are the solution to the problem. Seems this is particularly a problem with 2 water tanks that are interconnected. The main thing is that you MUST keep the shutoff open while filling, because that second tank needs to vent air as the water comes in. It will blow up like a balloon without a way for air to escape. And on mine, the air vent tube (not the overflow tubes) is only connected to the first tank.

You can use whatever is convenient. Just needs to close that overflow tube once it starts running water. My two overflow tubes are located immediately behind my tires and are therefore very difficult to access. So I connected the two tubes and ran an extension tube about 2 foot long and brought it out right where the drain valves are for the two fresh water tanks. There I added a shut off that looks like a cooler spigot.

I have seen other folks that use metal piping and attach a metal shutoff like you have at your house for connecting a hose. Again, anything will do. Just depends on your preference.

Stopped today for lunch and lost 1/3 tank of water until I backed up and braked to stop the siphon. Thanks for the tips to fix this problem. First trip we have had this problem.
On our way home from Yellowknife NWT Canada

I'm going to the hardware store this weekend and getting some 1/2in shut offs. Luckily for me they are right behind my low point drain so they are easy to access

fresh water door

Just wondering how many people have a lock on their fresh water door.
I have one on mine. I put one on when we added the two solar panels

I do not want anyone fooling around with the water.
It like people having locking caps on the car for gas.
DO Not want anything getting into it.

I had just contacted Jayco about water running out of the two hoses underneath the trailer before the tank was filled, then I read this post. Their reply was: as soon as water starts coming out of the two hoses, stop filling for a few minutes and then complete filling the tank. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, so we'll see.

Funny, I read this thead a while ago and riding really understand what was going on as a result of not having experienced this. Filled out HT 29.5BHDS up for the first time the other day, and when it got full, it spewed a ton of water for a very long time. My wife and I looked at each other scratching our heads. We both new that the water fill rate wasn't so high that that was all water above the tank fill line. I though about it for a few days and remembered this thread, ironically. Now I get it. What has worked? Has anyone tried the Jayco method? Or have you guys all out shutoff valves on the drains?

This didn't solve the problem, water still runs out of the overflow tubes almost immediately when trying to further fill the tank.

This is my solution to the problem- a pair of hose pinch-off pliers, and will work for anyone that has a flexible drain hose and has access to it. My FWT is under my bed so the drain hose is a piece of cake to get at. I keep the pliers right next to the hose so they're always handy.

The ones I have (pictured above) are made by Lisle, Model# 23000. Any good auto parts store should have this or a competitor's brand in stock.

One word of caution: I would not pinch off the drain hose until after the tank is full to ensure there's a path for air to escape while filling the tank.

well i did put a shutoff on both hoses to stop the water overflow and then finish filling the tank... still dont know if it is helping my two tank equalizing problem though ... myself i took two pvc elbows attached short pieces to them to hook to the hoses brought them together to a pvc t then out to the side with a longer piece of pvc to a ball shutoff valve and fastened to the frame with a lap over clamp all of the pipe is above the underbelly corrugated plastic except where it fastens to frame .... when it starts coming out i just shut the valve and finish filling the tank and after it has had a chance to drop some thru use i open it back up to vent ... funny thing is it still has as of yet never come out of the front drain vent at the water fill just starts running out the fill hole when its full

ok here is a drawing I did of the way I did it ... I used half inch pvc and a pvc ball valve and got the elbows with one side threaded so I could screw hose barb ends in them for the existing drain hoses

I just stop filling up when the overflow tubes start running water. I figure that's full enough. The problem I have is after I fill the tank up and move it to the RV site, I lose 5 to 10 gallons of water due to moving the 5er around on an unlevel site prior to getting it level. I have a very complex solution...after filling, I stick two corks in the tubes until I get the 5er in the site .
