Eagle HT with Super Duty

Looking for a little help to figure out if I should go ahead with the purchase of a 2017 F250.. I have an 2016 Eagle HT 29.5BHDS. I know some people were saying that they have to change some things on the trailer to lift it up. How would ths truck work with the trailer as is. The trailer does have the Maxxis 16 tires and the truck is just regualr configuration from Ford nothing lifted and 18 tires. Thanks in advance for any comments as we would like info to make a good decision prior to making this purchase.

What are you pulling it with right now? Can you just compare the box height of your existing truck to a new F250?

Are you planning to get a diesel F250? If so you may be close on payload but I am not sure what the newer ones are rated at. If planning on a gas engine you won't have any issues on payload. Check the door sticker before you buy anything.

Cheers

You guys are great thank you for the info, looked up online and the diesel is between 3350-3450lbs. Should be all good with my trailer. How hard is it to move the trailer up to the last hole, is this something I should attempt at home (obviously if I can jack it up with all my jacks.

I did the wet bolt install myself as have many on the JOF and it's a little longer version of what you want to do. If you have the tools and are comfortable turning the wrenches then you should not have a problem.
For me the key was having a bottle jack, some HD jack stands and plenty of cribbing to help with the lifting and to support the frame once it's lifted. Then one or more floor jacks to gently raise and lower the axles.
Discovered (thanks to BigJohnD) that the frame only has to be lifted a few inches, the axle raised and tire removed to get enough clearance to do the job. With the frame supported and the tire removed there is plenty of room to let the axle hang without touching the ground.

I have a 2017 29.5 BHOK with the 16" Maxxis tires that I tow with a Ram 2500 (stock...not lifted, no tire mods, no airbags, etc). Mine currently tows about 1.5 inches high in the front from perfectly level. I have not dropped the leaf springs on the trailer to the bottom hole.

There are several threads on this topic as it pertains to the Jayco HT line of 5ers. Most agree that Jayco designed them to be towed by a half-ton truck (even though most half-tons can't really handle a lot of their HT line) and therefore ride high on a 3/4 ton or above.

I personally don't think that 1.5 to 2 inches across a 30 to 35' trailer is significant enough to worry about. But, it does bother some. There are plenty of folks that tow the HT line of 5er's with F250's. I think you'll be fine and may decide to not even drop the leaf springs to the last hole.

My .02 cents!

sobuck,
did you have to lift the trailer or just the hitch? Just curios as I am going to pick up my new 27.5 HT on tuesday next week and I am hoping I don't have to do anything on the trailer. I had a Cedar Creek 37 ft. and downsizing to the 30 ft and hoping its a good fit to my F350 SD 4X2. I know the 2017 trucks are a bit higher in height than my 2014 is, don't know why Ford keeps raising them up. Not all truck people are into jacked up vehicles.

We have a 2017 F250 CC 4x4 and a 2017 Eagle HT 28.5 rsts. Dealer put the springs on the lowest hole and raised my hitch 1 hole. No problem with this setup.

If that number is from 2017 Ford Super Duty | View Payload Specifications | Ford.ca
it is for a gas engine and a barebones XL model. A F250 Diesel Lariat or high end model will be much closer to 2000lbs payload after reductions for the heavier diesel engine and all the other added options like leather seats, sunroof, running boards, etc......

As sobuck posted all vehicles have a sticker just like that with the payload listed on it. Just confirm you have what you need before buying anything.

Cheers

I have a 2015 F-250 all factory config (no mods) with 18" tires. I was a little concerned after reading all of the 3/4 height problems, but ordered my 2017 HT 27.5 rlts with the 16" Goodyears and I have no issues. 3 trips so far.

I had the hitch (Curt 16Q non-slider) installed at the lowest setting, it was nose-down as you can see in the pic. I have since raised it and will test on the next trip.

We purchased a 2017 F250 XLT SCREW 4x4 6.2L w/8' bed (yeah, she's big) to tow our 2018 Jayco Eagle HT 28.5 RSTS (I traded up my F150). We're installing the B&W gooseneck turnover ball with the Andersen Ultimate adapter 2 (Aluminum). That will allow us to raise or lower the kingpin a couple inches either way. Unfortunately, we're still in the process of the hitch install and trailer pickup so I can't offer any real world suggestions yet.

Found this thread looking for something else.. I have a 2017 F250 4x4 CC with a 2017 29.5 BHDS. I have the larger wheels and tires from the factory (Maxxis). I also have a Anderson Ultimate Fifth Wheel Hitch on a B&W Ball. I have the ball on the second setting because the first setting puts the trailer about 4.5 inches from the top of the tailgate (tail gate has a point in the middle due to the step, I believe).

To be frank, I love the truck, trailer and hitch. They each have so many pros, I couldn't think of changing any of them. I had an older 2002 F250, and this new truck makes this trailer feel like I'm towing a jet ski.. Smooth riding... motor has so much left to pull with.. quiet.. love it.

However, the new height on the '17 F250s is pretty crazy. Right now, the trailer does ride nose high.. However, it pulls like a dream. I've been watching tire temps to see if the rear tires are taking a beating, and they run the same temps as the fronts. Tires don't (at the moment) show any visible signs of uneven wear.

I'd like to level the trailer up, but the dealers around here want to install like 15k worth of addons (air ride suspensions on the trailer, etc). If I mention welding on a sub frame, they baulk at the idea.. I've called around to some suspension shops, and their confidence level seems more risky then just letting the trailer roll as is (ie, no experience working with RVs).

That said, I don't pull faster than 65 MPH. The truck wants to do 90, and the Texas roads that have 85 MPH speed limits make it a challenge not to let it loose... But, I figure if I drive safe/slow/steady, proactively replace tires a little earlier than maybe scheduled, keep an eye on wear/psi/temps... then I should be ok..

Happy RVing!

I tow slightly nose high at 65-75 and the sky has yet to fall .

Enjoy the rig, I have the same 5th being pulled with a 2011 6.7 F350- we love our trailer and I agree, the 6.7 is a beast!

I have a 2015 F250 4x4 (no mods), when my HT 27.5 rlts came in it was a little nose down.
When I had my CURT non-slider installed I asked that it was set to the lowest level fearing it would be too high. After hookup though, I had the hitch moved up one notch and now it's near perfect. hopefully all will be good.
