Question Electric question

When we brought our new fifth wheel home, I went to press the up/down button for the front legs and it immediately quit and we found that the inline fuse was blown. We replaced it. Then when we arrived at the campground, it happened again, and once we got it home, it did it again. The dealer suggested that it is in the pickup but we've had it checked and everything checks out fine on the truck. Has anyone experienced this problem and do you have any suggestions as to what to check. I truly hate taking it back for service and missing great camping time but I will if no quick resolve. Thanks.

Are you using a slow blow fuse rather than a regular fuse? The electric jack on our trailer needs a slow blow fuse to avoid frequent replacement. I would check the trailer manual or ask the dealer about the fuse.

I'm not sure, I'll check with the Captain on that one. I'm sure he just replaced with the same that came with the fifth wheel. As I said, it happened when we arrived at home from the dealer. I'm just afraid that something is shorting out in the trailer.

Mine does the same thing if you raise it too high or bottom it out, it will blow in an instant

Howdy Dave and Carla,
If the dealer thinks it is the pickup, I would probably disconnect the electrics from the truck, then lower my landing gear using the trailer's battery. If the fuse is blown again, you know it has nothing to do with the pickup. In that case, after reading everyone else's replies here, I would check into that slow-blow fuse (of which I know absolutely nothing about). If the fuse does not blow after many attempts when electrically isolated from the pickup, then the dealer may be right.

Mine does the same if you bottom it out up or down. I just make sure I have some 30A fuses on hand all the time.

Jayco has replaced my front jacks with a differant brand because of problems. Call Jayco Tech if you can't get anywhere with the dealer. Tell Jayco that your broke down. That will get you Fast Service !!!!!

Thank you all for the input. It's sad that any of us are having those problems, but at the same time it's nice to know that we're not the only ones. I will keep your suggestions in mind.
