Ergonomics

Something has been bugging me about my unit - and it's what I consider poor ergonomics; specifically the location and orientation of my various slide switches.

When I'm standing in the door - looking towards the rear - I see my two slides (left and right walls/ opposite each other). The operating switches are just to the left of the doorway - so also right in front of me.

The switch on the right controls the slide of the left. The switch on the left controls the slide on the right. AND, the switches operate up/down (unmarked open or close).

Why don't they orient these switches to match side to side, Left switch controlling the left slide while the right switch controls the right slide? AND why not orient them 90 degrees so they toggle left/right, mimicking the direction you want them to go?

And yes I can imagine just physically swapping them side to side, but it still leaves them up/down instead of side to side.

Similar story with my electric awning, its oriented up/down (and unmarked) instead of side to side ... once again, it should mimic the direction of travel.

Stupid things like this bug me; does that make me some kind of compulsive?

Have you ever noticed that no one will ever admit to being OCD, rather they just rearrange the letters to CDO

I kind a thought the same thing, when we first gout our unit. Luckily our switches are marked in/out. It would be very easy to open the cabinet and flip the wires between the switches. Orientation would be a little harder. I think in our society now days, people just expect switches to be in the vertical orientation.

If you have a label maker, label them.

Have the same thought about the inside and outside lights on the panel. The right switch controls the inside light and the left one controls the outside light. Don't do electricity so I haven't made a change. Maybe some day.

If you'd said 'Illogical things like this bug me.

You are right, that is "more gooder".

They could have really messed things up if they had labeled the rocker
switches with 'Clockwise' and 'Counter clockwise' ... 100% accurate but totally useless.

I'm glad to know it isn't just me that it bothers. I thought the placement of the interior light switches were in a bad place being inside the cabinet. I may have to do some rewiring before camping season gets here. I already have a short list of other "to-do's in the making, like a tornado for the black tank and a mattress replacement.

I like your suggestions. Maybe you should send them to Jayco then just maybe they will change them for future purchasers. I would email them to the sales manager so he/she can push them as sales benefits (cuz manufacturing won't want to change ).

I'm certain it would fall upon typical American Apathy/Union ears ... it's not my job.

Years ago I thought the Japs would overtake us ... but now I feel it'll be the Chinese.
No offense intended as I actually appreciate foreigners work ethics.

I have the same problem with my light switches. The switch closest to the exterior controls the interior lights, and vice versa. I mentioned something to the RV tech that was doing my pre-delivery inspection with me and he told me its like that on every one. After reading this thread I'm gonna rewire when I open her up in the spring.

Look guys...no politics here PLEASE! All I am saying is that if you want something to change, why not initiate the change yourself. You have an issue and a great solution (most people just complain). Why not let those who can do something about it know what the problem/sloution is?

I'm at my happiest when I have something to complain about.
Does that make me some kind of compulsive?
