F250 and brake controller

So, I am probably in the minority, but wanted to share in case others did not know.

I had a TT up until a few months ago and never had a problem stopping this unit. Fast forward - now I have an Eagle HT 27.5 rlts and the weight is now doubled from the TT.

I have noticed that it doesn't want to stop when really needed. Yesterday at a loooong red light with the camper attached, I started to scroll through my towing options. I found that my current braking assist was set to "Low assist" even though I had the brake controller set to 7.5 (out of 10). I changed the setting to "Med assist" and noticed a BIG difference in stopping.

Just wanted to share in case others were not aware of the features of their F250. Also found out there is a stage 1 and stage 2 of the keyless entry system. Stage 1 is enter your code for all doors to be unlocked, and stage 2 enter your code for driver door to unlock only, and hit button 3/4 for the remaining doors.

Sometimes it does pay to read the manual, or figure it out months later.

Opinions or, better yet....knowledge as to one of the changes on the 2018 North Point..specifically the 387rdfs.....They added two back splashes...one behind the stove and the other over in the hutch area.....we're HOPING that the back splashes are NOT plastic? Hard to tell!- if they're only plastic sheets that will NOT be a positive change and will be a huge disappointment!!!! Does anyone have some info ??

I have the same set up on my F250. Wasn't sure what all of it meant and was somewhat confused after reading the owners manual. With my TT I use low from the menu and 8.0 on the brake controller. I read somewhere that 10.0 on the brake controller may not be enough if you have a heavy trailer. I did try experimenting with the low, med, and high. What a difference! I learned a lot and the owners manual finally made sense. With time and experimentation, I have learned a lot. I still read through the owners manual again and again during those relaxing camping hours.

I don't think my '12 F-250 has this option of "low, med, high assist" but I'm certainly going to check it out.

Trust me, your not in the minority. I purchased a new TV and just plugged in and off we went. I thought I made a huge mistake buying the 3500 dually (old TV was a 2500) because the braking was way worse. To the point that I took all the wheels off the 5er to check for grease intrusion. Then I remembered about the light and heavy electric setting with the TV.

Just know that your not alone!

I have a '14 and it's not an option on mine either. That feature came out on the 15s

ok, well I hope this helps for owners of 2015+ trucks, cause I had no idea. I blew through a red light, because I could not stop with the default setting of "low assist"

Ran across your post and wanted to ask a question or two. I have a 2016 f250 superduty 4x4 Lariat with 20" tires, short bed. We are considering the Eagle HT 5th wheel and was wondering if we would have any problems with level of trailer with this set up. I had an f150 an upgraded when we sold our old 5th wheel. I kept the Pullrite 16K slider hitch to use in the new trk. I have read so many post and just getting more confused. Was wondering what your thoughts were ? Thanks !!

Appreciate this thread, I didn't know about this setting at all.

I do plan to RTFM when my truck shows up, but even then I probably would have missed this. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, can't answer that either. I have a stock 2015 F-250. I had my hitch installed at the lowest setting. I did have it raised last week. I won't know the outcome until this weekend though.

I don't know if you can adjust sliders (low or high), but try the lowest setting on the hitch first.

Good luck.

That's probably more accurate than I'm willing to admit at this particular point.

I did download a PDF version of it last month and haven't even opened it yet, so it's pretty clear you understand

My 2016 F150 had the low med high brake setting but my 2016 F250 doesn't. Pretty strange...
