Fifth Wheel Model Numbers?
Someone told me, the fifth wheel model numbers (like 30.5RLS) tell you the distance from the TV tailgate to the rear bumper of the fifth wheel. If this is true, would that mean a 30.5 model would have the same turning radius as a 30.5 foot TT?

Not anymore. I have a new Jayco 30.5 RLS and its a 35 footer. RLS means: right side slide.

Really, Right Side Slide? How about "Rear Living Slide". Besides isn't your slide really on the left (drivers) side?

No offence, but I think you missed the point. Yes, 35 feet overall length, but when hitched up, the 5er overlaps the TV.

That's an interesting concept and one I hadn't heard of before. I know my FW is a 26.5 but measures about 30' from the front of the hitch to the rear of the bumper. I guess I'll try to remember this when I go pick mine up from the dealer and measure it while hooked up. By the way, I thought RLS meant "rear living space" which is what I have in my 26.5 RLS. Rear of the FW is open with a small table and two swivel chairs facing forward toward the entertainment center.

I believe the 30.5 in the model number is the measurement from the pin to the rear bumper.

From what I can tell, the numbers Jayco uses for the most part mean nothing, our Pinnacle 35LKTS is 40' 4" long, it is longer than the 36REQS, 36KPTS, 36RETS and the 36RSQS.
You really have to go by Jayco's specs and published data for accurate lengths.

Thanks to each reply. I will try to clarify a bit more.
When asking my question, I'm trying to get a feel for what the turning radius might be for some of the smaller Eagle fifth wheel models. Another thread elsewhere in JOF stated that 5ers had a smaller turn radius for any given overall length. We are considering an overall length in the 30 to 32 foot range, and are wondering how that would compare to our current 26.5 foot overall length TT. Maybe they would be similar, but I don't really know the answer. Keep in mind the pivot point for our TT is about 4.5 feet behind the TV axle.

Measure the distance from where your TT tongue would be sitting on the ball of your hitch(somewhere behind bumper) to your rear axle. Subtract this length from the published length of any 5'er and this should get you close to what I [I]think[I] you are asking for.

Your turing radius will be greatly improved with a 5er due to the angles not being limited and your pivot point being in your bed. If you go with the optional sidwinder you will be even tighter. With a 5th wheel you will be in your bed and the front of your camper is over your TV which is why you need to swing wider and turn later when towing. Backing up your movements in either direction are more effective with less movement.

RLS = Rear Living, Slide
RLDS = Rear Living, Double Slide
RLTS = Rear Living, Triple Slide

allen, thanks for the clarification. I just thought it meant Rear Living Slide but the double and triple was a revelation to me. Thanks once again.

As for the turning radius, we moved from a 29 foot TT to a 33 foot 5er, and can turn quite a bit tighter with the longer 5er. Much more maneuverable in smaller and tighter spaces, and more stable on the road. Like said above, you just have to turn later and a bit wider.
