First trip in 29RLTS a sucess ! Electrical question

We just returned from the maiden voyage of our new (to us) 29RLTS - our first 5er. The only word that describes it is "WOW !" Have had several TTs, but the towing experience with this 5er was just fantastic. Factory pin box (nothing fancy), Reese Signature 16K hitch and absolutely NO chucking. Except for the hills and Massanutten mountians, I had to look back every few miles to be sure it was still there. Why didn't we go to 5ers a lot sooner ????

On another subject, I used the factory under-bumper trailer cable connection that came with my F-350, and secured the cable up the tailgate to the pin box. Noticed that that the cable will rub the tailgate paint with this configuration. Would appreciate some suggestions as to how and where to put a connection inside the bed. Would rather not mount it in the bed floor - too much dirt from hauling other things would get in it. Not sure about the bed side, either - doesn't look thick enough to accomodate a flush mount connector. What is the normal/accepted way of doing this ? Do you just splice into the wires to the under-bumper cable, or run a separate cable from the front ? Any suggestions as to placement/mounting, and what type of connector, would be very much appreciated.

I had one installed just inside the bed on the far back side wall that the tailgate rests against. It was plenty of room for the wire and plug.

My previous F350 had a bracket on the side wall even with the hitch with the jack mounted on it. Both worked well.

Thanks, norty1 for the response. I was looking at farther forward, and did not think to look near the rear post. Will check it out. Did you use a special plug (shorter), or did a standard one work OK ?

I had it installed by the place that did my hitch install. I can post a pic if you want. I suspect there is over 2 inches clearance, If I remember they drilled a hole and fished the wire thru it. I thing the plug is mounted on the side. Only a 1/2 in hole. I can look a little deeper if you are interested. It is very convenient when connecting.

Pic of bed mounted trailer connection

Here is my connection. It is plenty deep to mount the outlet.

I have mine between the wheel well and the rear post about 7 inches above the deck. You don't want it too far in as unplugging can be a reach from the tailgate area when down.

E-trailer has some y-adaptors that are pretty much plug and play units without having to cut any wires. My TV came with this installed so it was installed using parrallel connectors that crimp down through the insulation to achieve the connection. Had I done it I would go with the plug adapters as linked below. Much simpler and cleaner install.

OK - thanks, guys - I really appreciate the advice and pics. Felt that there must be a simple way to do this, and obviously there is. As soon as it quits raining, I will check the truck bed for the best location and see about getting a 20110 and installing it. Have a great day, y'all !

All of my connections have been on the side of the bed just forward of the wheel well. That seems to work well for me, I have never had a problem with this.
