Just for LEGAL reasons get a document (in writing) from the painter that they are going to remove the gel coat down to the fiberglass and you can always pick a spot on the bottom of the cap to verify they did.

When you remove the gel coat do you lose that nice smooth finish to where you would see the fibers?

got the eagle back
got the eagle back last Friday!! it looks fantastic, painter did a great job and I really like the lighter color. it looks like a completely different trailer. thanks to mustang65 for all the info on light vs dark cap, that helped me determine which color to have ours painted. I would post a picture but this site does not seem to be to cooperative at the moment for that.

I was approved for and planned on changing the color on our fading cap as well. However, the shop that did mine strongly advised against it. Claimed the cap was brown throughout, and therefore any chip or scratch would show through the top coat of paint. Opted not to change colors but I do agree they look way better with the lighter nose cap.

Mustang65,
Maybe the shop (not a Jayco dealer) just didn't want to mess with all the work required to change the color. Never the less, I went ahead and had the repair work completed last fall and am pleased with the finished job.

No, the original options were to either replace the cap or strip down the front cap to fiberglass and paint ( I opted for the same color as the side of the TT, as my warranty was running out in about 6 months and the service center has a 5 year warranty on their paint job.. a win-win situation) . The stripping down job was chosen by Jayco (after the service center gave them an estimate), and the Jayco center was informed to re-do the front cap, not replace it. The paint center at the Jayco dealer (do all mfr of trailers dark gel coat issues), informed me while doing a walk through of their body shop, said that if you must paint over an oxidized gel (even sanded) it will bleed through the paint eventually. I worked with Jayco and the service center on this issue and documented it all.
This is the process I went through to get the cap work completed.
You need to contact Jayco and get detailed information as to how the service center is to handle the front cap and if they followed Jayco's instructions.

Nice, I liked the lighter color also. Did they order the decals for the side of the front cap, as those decals are part of the side decal package? The service center was unaware of that..
They sent mine to my house, when I noticed they were missing. Still sitting on the shelf in my office... will get to it this summer.

thanks to your experience I brought the side stickers to their attention when I set up the service date. I do not know it they were aware of the side stickers before that or not. for reference , here is a shot one week before we took the eagle down to have it repainted. if you look real close you can see the fading on top of the cap. for those interested, this is Madison campground in Yellowstone park by the west entrance.

WE have a 2015 Pinnacle 38FLFS that will be a year old Feb9th and the front cap is faded at the top. Jayco has ok'd the repair and we are waiting for new Decals to arrive so we can arrange for the repainting. Jayco has been very good about any problems we have had so we are happy with them.

Mustang,
That's what I was meaning, Jayco approved paying for the color change on mine as well. It was the shop that ended up doing the work that talked me out of doing so.

I have a 2015 eagle and I put in for warranty repaint back in octoberknowing my warranty would be up in april of 2016. they okd the repaint but I found out when I called jayco to ask about it that the decals had to be submitted seperatly after the repaint was okd ... seems like a little bit weird if they are going to repaint the cap wouldn't they want to replace the jayco on the front also. so now they have submitted to jayco for the decals needed for the front. I hope they get this done before camping season starts as now it has been 5 months

I contacted Jayco directly through email seeing I'm 2.5 hours from my dealer. They ok'd a local autobody center to repair my front cap. Went in today. I'm having it done in the same color as the body.

Smart move... the cap will be over 100 degrees cooler in the noon sun. The maximum temperature of the body color on the cap was 119 degrees (200+ with the dark color) REALLY helps on those bright sunny days inside the TT
