Hairline crack in Gelcoat

Has anyone found a hairline crack in their fiber gelcoat? Washing the Seismic today I found a 3" double hairline (very hard to find) crack just forward of and at bottom of the bedroom overhang. I'm reporting it right away to dealer for a claim. Anyone had any experiences with these in out of warranty? It seems to be just the Gelcoat.

Thanks.

I have no out of warranty experience. We had a small spider Web crack in a wall. Our dealer sent it out. Came back as good as new. I was amazed you absolutely cannot find it.

Sent it where? Like a fiberglass boat type place or factory?

I do not know exactly where. They just stated to a local fiber glass repair shop.

I did a Google search "fiberglass repai", and 17 shops in this area showed up. Some of the shops appeared to specialize in boats, some both boats and cars. I bet you can find a shop near you.

I've got some time left on the warranty so this one definitely is going in as such. Great info, thank you!

Had this happen to my 377rlbh. It is a slide support issue and needs to have additional support welded in if it is what I have going on. My crack is right on the bottom left corner of the bedroom slide. I currently have it at the shop for repair under warranty still only had it like 4 months. I have heard to get it repaired was like 4 to 5k

Was that into the fiberglass structure as well? I called and reported mine to Jayco and dealer. Now just waiting to bring it in when time permits.

Here is the email response I got from Jayco on how this is supposed to be repaired.

Hi Mark,

It’s fairly straightforward. The slide is removed then a section of wall is cut out to expose the frame. A gusset is welded to the frame alleviating the flexing that caused the crack. New fiberglass is installed and refinished.

Just doing a fiberglass repair is not sufficient and will not be approved.

We have a 2011 jayco fifth wheel that had a crack near the front bedroom slide. It was obviously an issue that Jayco had seen before because they sent out a "how to" memo that was 6 pages long if memory serves me. Our dealer was going to get a local boat repair facility to do the job until they had a look at what Jayco required. The repair people wouldn't touch the job after seeing what was required. We ended up sending it back to Jayco in Indiana for repairs at Jayco's expense. The repair was superb!!

Had this happen to our 2012 the first summer we had it, small crack above the driver-side running light on the front cap. Took it to the dealer for repair and they said Jayco said the whole cap had to be replaced, took about three months but got a new one for no cost, other than time at dealer.

My trailer has to be shipped back to Jayco to get the cracked fixed. Anyone knows how long to get it back?

Obviously it depends on there back log. We were 3 weeks getting it back after it left the dealer in 2012.

We found several hairline cracks in front cap. It was out of warranty by a year or more. Called Jayco and they agreed to have it repaired no cost! I contacted a repair place in Denver (mostly semi truck fiberglass repair) and they were an authorized Jayco repair shop. So they got in touch with Jayco, worked out details, and BAM! new cap. I think it cost us a couple hundred out of pocket but I don't remember what that was for. Call them and see, couldn't hurt.

Here are some photos of the support that was added.

You can see in the second photo that more vertical and horizontal support was added as well as extra gusset piece on the bottom left corner of the slide opening.

Lots of beef added with the repair! They should do it to all of these models. If you have one of these models, call Jayco and tell them that you are very concerned. I did. They said they made a bit of my concern. Longer story but I’ll spare ya.

I wouldn't call that a patch, just an ugly cover up. I'd fight that like crazy between the two. I'd send an email of those pics and the dealer info and your Vin to Jayco customer service.
I know I wouldn't not be please nor except that cover up. You can't even call it a repair. I'm sure the crack will grow pass the cover.

I have already talked to Jayco rep and sent them the pictures. My dealer has spoke with them too. And I was informed that they are reevaluating the problem. I quite don't understand but I definitely am not going to have a $60,000 camper with a hack job it's going to be a huge red flag if I ever go to sell it. And you're probably exactly right the crack will go past the patch job
