Having to Get Fuel too Often

Heading West from Florida to Texas and having to stop for fuel every 200 miles really is a PAIN.

Our Chevy Short Bed Truck only has a 25 gallon fuel tank and at 11 mpg we have to stop quite often.

When we had our previous Eagle 5th Wheel, it was only 28 Ft long and was a not to bad to negotiate getting fuel, but now with our 41 Foot Pinnacle getting fuel is more challenging.

I see a larger fuel tank in our future !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love my Titan fuel tank(198 liters). It takes awhile to fill because it takes the last 30 litres slowly, but I run out of fuel before my truck will.

Dang, I wish I got 11 mpg. I only get 8 with a 26 gallon tank!

I'm thankful GM put a 36 gallon tank in my 3500HD.

I think they put the 26 in the short bed and 36 in the long, at least it used to be that way. I also have the 26 gl.

They actually started putting 36 gallon tanks on short beds starting with the 2011 model year as I have the larger tank as well.

To the OP, I have heard good things about Titan tanks.

Ditto, here too!

But at my age I feel better if I make a pit stop about every 3 hours. It's good for my bladder, my legs, and my alertness to have to get out and move, fuel up, and visit the privy.

I was pleasantly surprised that my new Pinnacle is getting about 11.7 mpg at 62 mph even though I'm easily towing about 1.5 tons more weight over my 2009 old SuperLite 5W.

Again, I don't mind the stops, actually I need the stops but would prefer to stop at rest areas or large open parking lots for a break.

Trying to negotiate a 41 Ft 5er in many fuel stations is difficult and not pleasant so the fewer times I have to fuel up with our Pinnacle behind me the better.

Rob, I agree. I like to stop and rest, but I don't like getting fuel with the trailer in tow if not required.

Luckily, my new truck has a 400 mile range, which is about all I want to tackle in a day anyway.

I would love to have a 400 mile range, that is about maximum I want to do in a day too.

For me it isn't the stopping for fuel often as much as it is just a pain to fuel so often. The other issue for us is that we go up in the Sierras a lot and when we go up there for a week we need the "travelin around" fuel and if you CAN find it is is way more expensive up there than down here in the real world.

We went up to Titan's plant in Chico a few weeks ago and had a 37 gallon in bed tank with the Trax fuel management system. It monitors the level in the main tank and at different levels it automatically pumps fuel from the aux tank into the main one. We now carry 66 gallons of fuel and have a range when towing of over 650 miles and when not towing somewhere over 1,000 miles (highway not towing).

This is what it looks like when I move the bed cover over it when towing, it fits under the Pace Edwards Bedlocker bed cover nicely.


This is the computer that controls the pump and monitors the fuel level in both the Titan tank and the main tank.

My uncle bought a similar tank and system a few years ago when he was here for a visit sense we are only 30 miles from Chico. The same system to buy in Pa. where he lives is a lot more money.

I can go about 350 miles between fueling. I dont mind the fueling if I can find a station that isn't to hard to maneuver the 5er. I do have a transfer tank with a pump that holds 100 gallons just in case. I like stopping about every 200 miles to walk around and stretch the legs. I got a blood clot a few years ago that turned into a pulmonary embolism and pneumonia and spent 6 days in one of the finest hospitals in central Pa. and I would like not to do that again.

Panhead, that's a great looking set-up. What's a rough estimate of the cost?

Installed after tax was just a bit over $1300, Tank, pump all hardware and fuel management system was $1026.94, Installation was $200 and the rest was for dear old Governor Moonbeam.

What I like most about it is that it is all "automagic" and all I have to do is fill em up and go.

Looking at a 51 gallon aux. tank by RDS for my truck bed. Anyone have any experience with this one or any others?

My SB F350 came with a 26 gal tank. I replaced it with a Titan 50 gal. tank. I now get close to 900 miles when not towing and 550 when towing. Also I didn't have to give up any space in the bed so I have room for my blue boy and ladder.
