The heated hose we got had the thermostat on the end that connected to the RV. Which means it wild have been inside when I hooked it up. I was going to get a short piece of hose so the thermostat would hang out the port. But then I thought the ambient heat from the RV would keep it from kicking on. Also the site we are on for the winter doesn't have a electric hookup near the water spigot, which means I would have to run an extension cord. Which is not recommended.
What I did was get adapters from Lowes and hooked the hose up backwards. So the thermostat is out by the spigot and the plug is inside the RV basement where we have a GFI connected outlet it reach'a with no extension cord.
