Hitch height

Just went from a bumper pull to a fifth wheel hitch. Haven't bought the trailer still looking. My question is how much clearance are you shooting for from underneath the front of the trailer and the pickup bed rails. I have a B & W hitch and I there is some adjustment up and down for height and I also notice on the hitch part on the front of trailer you can adjust them also. I have a 2012 gmc 2500hd crew cab. I want to keep the trailer level but I want enough clearance when your going through dips. I'm totally new to this so if this sounds mundane sorry.

We have a B&W also, and after all the adjustments we ended up with about a 7-inch clearance!

Words to the wise: let the RV dealer make all the adjustments when they hook up the trailer to your TV. There are several areas that can be adjusted to get your rig as leveled as possible.

Also take into consideration if you are going to add a soft tonneau cover. My Father in law added one and has damaged the aluminum frame for the cover when it hit the camper in a tight turn.
