Is this Generator worth using?
We inherited a brand new, never used Honda 2000 generator and have never used a generator in an RV. We live in California and the generator is in Michigan, but we will be driving to Michigan next year. Is it even worth having my relatives hang onto it for us until next summer, or is it just too small to do anything? We have 4-6volt batteries, solar and household refer in our Pinnacle and occasionally do some dry camping. Wondering if it could be a good backup to recharge batteries, etc. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Yes, very expensive genset. Worth money to sale as well. You can buy a second one and parallel them to double the output. I know I wouldn't turn it down. Lol

Honda and Yamaha generators are the gold standard. It is an invertor style generator which is excellent for sensitive electronics. They are also the quietest generators on the market, excellent for RV use. Typically a single unit will not operator an AC unit, sometimes if you add a hard-start capacitor to the AC, then it could operate an AC. You can parallel two of them for additional power. It would be a perfect generator for charging batteries, or to use as backup power.
If it has never been used, the I would expect no carburetor issues from stale fuel. Worse case scenario it might need a new carb (they are no longer rebuild able)
You are more than welcome to drop it off at my place!

I use my 2KW Honda generator to connect to my trailer to charge up my battery bank using the on-board converter/charger when camping off grid. The converter/charger unit will run just fine from your small generator...
The 2KW generator will not run your air conditioner or your high wattage microwave...

Mine is very handy. As stated it won't run either ac but it will keep your batteries charged and all other systems going even in a big rig as long as you are careful with current usage and have the proper adapters to adapt the 15a plug to the 50a on your camper. If you overload it, be prepared to have to re-crank the 2000i.

bethcb,
If you don't want it, I'll take it - I'm closure to Michigan then you are too - just kidding
Seriously, as other's have indicated, the Honda 2000 is great for keeping the batteries charged.
I have one, and maybe only use it once a camping season, but wouldn't give it up for anything.
When you use it, don't put it on the ground, have plywood or I use a rubber shoe mat to place it on. This keeps the dirt and sand from getting sucked into the generator.
Congrates on inheriting a Honda 2000 for free. I'm sure many here are envious.

I hope it wasn't a sad occasion to inherit it. I can't add much to what has already been said but congratulations on a sweet gen.

Thank you all for you replies. I guess its a keeper. Time will tell if we actually ever use it. If not, someone out there may get a great deal!

So I will keep the generator. I have some dumb questions: Do I take my 50 amp cord and convert it down to 20 amps to plug it into generator? The plug on generator says 13.3 amps.
Do I use a surge protector?
Will the batteries charge automatically when I plug trailer into the generator?
Thanks for helping.

You'll need dogbone (s) to downsize to use a standard household outlet. Do you plug in at home to a standard outlet? If so same setup.
If you do not have one here is the first 15 to 50 amp adaptor I found on line
