Jayco 377 RLBH Moryde cord reel and storage drawer

The one we found came with the cord reel and the storage drawer is standard. I honestly thought it would be the first two things I would remove, but I've found them both useful. I will also say they are very well built and great quality.

Cord reel- I moved it over against the connection center so I had a larger space. Pondered bolting it to the rear bumber and getting a cover for it.

Storage drawer- I can get all my 19volt craftsman power tools in it with battery's and chargers, along with my propane torch, and some bungees and zip ties. I can also still stack all my totes and chairs and mat without effecting it opening and closing.

I really like the cord reel and thinking about getting one for our new trailer as well. The 50-amp cord is definitely heavier than the 30-amp one, and this reel can be mounted in the rear storage compartment.

It's not cheap, but man it does help with coiling and storing that 50 amp cord. Those things are heavy. When I help my brother with his RV I throw his 30 amp cord around like its an extension cord.

I was concerned that the reel would take up too much space in the pass through area.

When we get our 377 I plan to remove the mini fridge and the small stove and convert that space to storage which would include the 50 amp cord. I currently lift my 50 amp cord after it is coiled into a rear storage dedicated to 50 amp connectors, pedestal tester, etc.on my 5th wheel. I am an old dude and that is getting to be less enjoyable each outing but there is not enough height to the space to permit coiling as you go. For the 377 I am thinking of hanging a towel or other cloth like material from the converted mini fridge/stove cubby to protect the side of the trailer and then moving the cord into the space coiling it as I go and while wiping the grime off of it. Not certain it will work, but will probably give it a try. If not, then I may have to purchase a MOR/ryde reel. Do you think it would fit in that side compartment or is it too tall?

Thanks for your photos and explanations. Your loaded tray has given me ideas.

Thanks, Gib

No problem.

They were delicious!

Note that reel has some weight to it. I would struggle to carry it if it had the cord on.

I don't understand the reel allure. Don't you still have to carry, or drag the cord to the back of the rig to plug in..then drag it (maybe through mud), or carry it back and start reeling, keeping it untangled as you reel?
It takes up so much space and you need to be humped over..ouchy on the old spine.
I just coil it on the ground and flop it in
It's not that heavy.

I wasn't a believer either, I almost posted it on Craigslist before I picked the RV up. Here's what I have found.

1. It really doesn't take up more room, it keeps the cord tightly rolled so it's actually more compact than manually coiling it.

2. The reel is smooth, so if you pull it out RV plug side first by the time you get to the back of the RV it's laid out nice and straight, then simply carry the other end back to the Power pedestal. Do in reverse and you have no effort.

3. The real is so well built it takes very little effort even bent over. It's heavy enough I don't even have it bolted down, so if you wanted you can move it around.

Like I said, I wouldn't have spent money to buy one before I used it.

I don't have enough room in my TT for the reel. Has anyone considered cutting the 50 amp cord in half and putting a male and female on the cut ends. It would cut the weight in half and if the distance to the power center is short you only need to use one half. Just a thought.

Having to shorter ones would be a thought. I know I recently switched from 2- 10' sewer hose's as I rarely ever needed 20 ft, but often need more than 10, so I always had this extra bunch of sewer hose. I now carry a 15' and a 5' and it's much easier to setup using one or the other.

Here was my original thought, but it's not very ascetically pleasing.

Personally, I try not to mess with electrical stuff--especially cutting a 50-amp cord. The last thing I need is to have an electrical malfunction and my trailer is fried, due to a bad or shorted out cord. Plus, one would think that the TT's warranty can be voided as well. If I don't have a reel, I will be labored myself and wind it up manually--heavy weight and all.
