After touring Jayco when we picked our unit up, I believe part of the problem is the way employees are paid. We were told they get a small hourly rate and then piecework, so much per unit put out. Since many people work on one unit, there is a lot of pressure to get it to the next station. Employees are actually running to get parts etc and back to the unit. After seeing that I mentioned what happens if they "forget" something. I was told at the end of the line they have a cleaning crew and a QC crew...but they only "repair" what is visable, nothing hidden Seems the pressure is on the employees to get it done, rather than get it done right. Also if they have 10 units to build that day, then go home when the last one is done, be it 2 hours or 10 hours, again, an incentive to get it done...not done right.
I would hope they back charge every employee for all problems that arise after delivery when something is not hooked up or completed correctly, only then would there be any incentive to make it right.

We are on our first trip with our new 2015 Jayco Eagle. I've spent the last 2 days fixing and cleaning that should have been done at the factory.
There were lots of sloppy wiring both inside and outside. I bought a bunch of slit plastic wire conduit and dressed up running light and brake wires outside, some were just left hanging and could have been snagged by something tearing out the wires. About $20 for conduit, black electrical tape, zip ties, a couple of hours and everything looks professional.
I just got off the roof with a tube of Dicor self leveling sealant touching up many, many areas where I would begin to have leaks in a couple of months.
I wouldn't even waste my time bringing my TT back to the dealer and wait weeks for them to fix factory mistakes. At least I know that things I fix will be fixed correctly.

I have a degree in Manufacturing Engineering and have worked for both defense manufacturers and commercial manufacturers for the last 38 years.
You cannot inspect quality into a product, quality begins with the workers who are making the product.
You will NEVER get a quality product by under paying employees and using piecework as an incentive for more money. If Jayco is truly paying their employees based on piecework, well than shame on Jayco management for having such a policy.

I have had new RV's, new houses, new vehicles.. all had to have something fixed that was not done right the first time... My Jayco had much less wrong with it than my Keystone did....

I think Jayco does an excellent job of manufacturing. Only to be exceeded by the two Jayco dealers I have dealt with

When I read all of the post's in this thread it reminders me of one thing.
"Excuses only satisfy the person that gives them."
Jayco makes excuses.
The dealership makes excuses.
and the consumer makes excuses for the both of the above.
Yet many are not satisfied that Jayco didn't do a quality job and that the dealer didn't do a complete walk thru.
As far as being underpaid and not doing good work that is both the workers fault for they accepted the job at a wage that was offered and Jayco's fault for not making sure the job was done correctly. And if they leave it to the dealer who will back charge them for any of this work then shame on them.
As for the dealers they know what is expected of them and if they don't do their job correctly then again it falls back to Jayco as they should be checking on the dealers.
Just my opinion

X2!
The brand-new fridge had a fault and the gas line had a kink in it. (Not noticed at the PDI nor the parked-at-the-house-shakedown.)
3 hours of out-in-the-field diagnosis, moving a hose guide, repositioning the hose and clearing the burner orifice, the trailer now has a properly operating fridge.
As soon as I remember to bring the serial numbers with me to work, I'll be filing a warrantee claim for a new burner assembly.

Quality is a vague term. Two people almost always see it different. We all want something we pay for, to be perfect. Piece rate systems do work, and most non-union workers approve of that type pay program. It's hard to manage, but good mangers can do it
