Just Ordered 1st Fifth Wheel

Thanks to everyone for all of the great information about Jayco fifth wheels. After weeks of looking, researching, watching YouTube videos, and reading forums, we ordered the 2014 Eagle 33.5 RETS. We looked at the Eagle Premier and the Pinnacle, both with great "wow" factors, but decided that right now a more affordable unit was the better way to go for us. Very happy with our choice and the new trailer.

This is our first fifth wheel; having traded in our TT for a better bedroom situation for a tall guy like me. Any advice or helpful hints from you vets would be greatly appreciated.

Due date is early December and that is going to be a difficult wait! We are hoping to plan a trip to the Jayco factory for a tour and hopefully to see our unit on the assembly line.

Thanks again everyone for a great forum for newcomers like us!!!

Congrats on the new 5er. I think you will be very happy with the upgrade from a TT. We have had several TTs over the years, and now have our first 5er, as well. After just a few great trips, we decided that we will not return to a TT.

Words of wisdom?, Yeah, make sure you have cab clearance when you back in. Saw a guy backing in his Fifth wheel and he busted out his rear window because he turned to sharply. Just a thought.

Thanks all. Trying to gather info for fifth wheels and wait patiently...last ones pretty difficult. But greatly appreciate the advice and welcoming attitudes. Now I'm planning next years trips!

The turning radius is a lot longer on a 5th wheel then it is on a trailer. That will become obvious the first time you try and go around fuel pump islands. Nothing that you can't adjust to but you really need to watch your mirrors until you get used to it.
You should love it. We moved from a trailer to a 5th wheel two years ago. We will never go back. Nothing wrong with a trailer but it's a big step up in room with the right 5th wheel. Congratulations!!

Just Ordered 1st Fifth Wheel

Congrats on the new 5er you are going to enjoy how it pulls especially with the 350 dually. Biggest thing is to not forget it's back there. I use truck stops about 90% of the time to fuel much easier to get in and out . Last year I pulled an 05 Designer RL31 with the RZR behind I was about 64 ft long over 5,000 miles . The new rig is a 36REQS . This is my second Jayco after having the designer for 9 years and four trips from Michigan to South Texas and AZ . Still looks new and has been trouble free. Enjoy your new rig happy trails

We made the switch to a 5er 2 years ago. LOVE the way it tows, no more white knuckle towing and that help DW relax as well. Like said before, don't forget it's back there as I've caught myself exceeding the speed limit HARD CORE. It's easy to do when it tows like a dream.
Now for some useful info, Always before raising the landing gear to drive off on your trip, make sure your hitch is locked into place, only raise them like 2-3", get in vehicle and apply trailer brakes only and try to pull forward. This will make sure you're hooked together and latched, and if your not it should hopefully miss your side rails of the truck bed. If you raise all the way up and are not latched 100%, you'll soon know.
Happy camping.

We use a checklist. Unlike your TT, with the fiver if a chatty neighbor distracts you things can get ugly. Every time, before I pull the release handle on that hitch I pause to ENSURE that I have daylight visible on the hitch, wheels chocked, weight on landing gear, and tailgate down.

A checklist is your best insurance. Have fun!!

Congratulations to you and we will have to keep in touch! Going from TT to 5th wheel is a bit daunting but we are excited!
