Lost/Found -

If you've lost your camper it may be the one found in SW Alabama:

Sounds like he wanted to get rid of it.

I actually saw that happen once, about 30 years ago. We were driving across Texas - don't remember where - but it was a long, straight, flat stretch of expressway. I was towing a Rolite (bonus points if you even know what that was) and was prehaps 100yds behind another RV, I'd guess a 30 ft older trailer.
Then I noticed that the Tow vehicle changed lanes to pass a semi in front of him. But the Trailer didn't change lanes; it just kept going. I could see sparks under the trailer where the hitch coupler was dragging the pavement. I hit the brakes, but the trailer kept going for an amazingly long distance before VERY SLOWLY veering off to the right shoulder.
THEN it got sideways, started to roll and the end result was a steel frame, wood fragments and aluminium siding all across two lanes of expressway.
Ourselves and many other people stopped to help - but all we could do was help them gather some personal belongings and clothing out of the rubble. Someone did find the propane tanks and make sure they were off.
When we left, the police said they were bringing in a bull dozer and a roll off dumpster to clean up the mess. Wasn't enough left for a wrecker.
And yes - he was towing without WDH or a safety chain.

This happened to my family when I was a kid. We were is eastern Canada in the Gaspe Penninsula towing a 30 foot Airstream with a Buick Electra. Around 1970 or so. We started up a hill and the trailer got smaller in my dads rearview mirror. Trailer brakes worked. Put chocks behind tires and we got hitch fixed 8 hours later. Hitch broke. Had to be welded. We spoke no French. They spoke no English. Had a French English dictionary we kept pointing to. When my dad how much the bill was, they spoke perfect English. I will always remember that day!

Reading the last two posts reminded me of something I'd forgotten about.

About 3 years ago I passed an old fellow on the side of the road. His skidoo (maybe a boat, I forget) and trailer were grounded with the tongue down. His car was backed up to it and I observed he was struggling to lift it into place. I turned around and went back to help.

Then another good fellow arrived and the two of us easily lifted it onto the hitch. BUT it was then that we noted his car had the smallest ball and the trailer was a 2". Additionally he had no chains. I guess that was OK because he didn't have any electrics either.

With warnings not to continue I departed. As this was nearby I should have seen/read of his obit, but never did.
