I come across the smoke detector and it says it’ll beep every minute for 30 days on a low battery. I’ve not heard anything so far. So, I get up on a chair and open the case....NO BATTERY! What the heck? I made the mistake and took for granted it came with one. As owner, I guess I’m guilty as charged. Does anyone remember their dealer walk around, and it was pointed out, “oh, be sure to install a battery in that detector?” Well, the OM never mentioned they’re installed without a 9v battery. The warning label next to it says...you fool, you suck if you don’t test me after I’ve been in storage!

I’ve had way too much fun with everything else in this new lifestyle, and tonight I feel besides myself, even not checking on it after the first year, and after I’ve read many RV fire stories and safety reminders in Trailer Life and Escapees mags and online.

If the manufacturer doesn’t initially install a battery in these things, and neither Jayco and who knows if dealers will (they install the 12v house battery(s) up front), then I strongly suggest that Jayco print up some sticky ribbons battery install notice and hang them on the detector as an important reminder. I will tell the service writer on Monday.
How about the carbon monoxide & propane detectors, did you check it to see if there was a battery installed?

I personally like the hard wired EMS simply because it’s one less thing to set up and take down every time

You may also consider the upgrade to wet bolts and HD shackles if your unit doesn’t come with them.

I’d love to see your write up on the media center.

I believe the 18s all came with wet bolts and shackles. Assuming the same for 19.

Most oem CO2 are 12v. I run both oem and an extra CO2/smoke.

They are hard wired to the 12v house batteries. You can see the power wires if you look under the sink. That was an excellent question you had, as you see the carbon monoxide detectors in box stores and they run on batteries.

I’m guessing it’s possible that more than half of all RV campers which ship with smoke detectors, will not have a 9v battery installed, and the excited owners may never be informed upon delivery and like me find out a year or two later or worst, never.

Certainly let us know if your camper camper came with one without batteries installed.

As a side note, there were no batteries installed in the keyless entry either on our 377.

I wasn’t paying attention to how I was standing on the chair, I guess. I had all my weight on the edge, not over the support. I’m going to cut a new piece of plywood and replace the seat. No biggie

Man what I wouldn’t give to have the third ac installed in mine right now. We’re in Vegas and the temp is 118 during the day the coolest the trailer gets is 90 during the day and 70 at night. Needles to say we are gone until after dark. The first thing I’m doing when we get home is looking into a 3rd ac. Marybeth before Labor Day in Galveston.

You won’t regret getting one! I think it’s a game changer. Today at lake Conroe was 100. Trailer stayed at 72 but “felt” colder (thermostats all set to 72). No shade here either. Kids complained it was too cold inside, lol

I’m hoping mine is already wired it is an early 2017. We’re currently at circus circus letting the grand kids play while we wait for the sun to go down. We are heading to Carlsbad in the early am to hopefully beat some of the heat. The other trailer with us already had a blowout and a flat due to hot road conditions

I’m skeptical that it is prewired. If yours is, it would really make things easier. I need to get in touch with Jayco to find out what my extra breaker labeled “electric grille” goes to. If yours has the extra breaker labeled 3rd AC, remove the loft vent surround and it’ll be easy to tell.

I’m going to check the breakers when we get back to the trailer and see.

We’ll according to both numbers, each of you guy’s rigs interior achieved an equal 28 degrees below outside air. At 118 outside with two ACs, I’d say that’s a major accomplishment! I hear you, Mark is it?, 90 inside still feels frustrating. Did you have a good fan on you?

Oh wow, that is amazing to hear. This past week we saw 104 in Llano, where our homebase will be located and our rig will be parked under the shop shed. I’m hoping our two ac’s will be able to keep the rig cool in the heat when the time comes. Here’s a view of the floor plan and aerial layout of the property which will include two extra RV pads for friends and family:Click image for larger version
